What biting, kicking, choking etc. a cop can get you
Russ Fitts of the OSPD was asked how much jail time assaulting a cop can lead to. His answer: ”According to the RCW 9A.20.021 the basic sentencing guidelines are: Assault 3, basic assault against a police officer is a Class C felony with a maximum term in prison of 5 years and $10, 000 fine. Assault 2, higher injury or potential, specific elements of assault is a Class B felony with a maximum term in prison of 10 years and $20,000 fine”
The mother and daughter involved in the Tuesday night brawl are being charged with both of the above, Fitts said. Officer Shaun Beebe, allegedly bitten by the 24-year-old Ocean Shores woman, was taken to the hospital for treatment of the bite and a series of shots; he returned to work later that night. Officer Paul Henderson, allegedly chocked and kicked in the head by the 42-year-old woman, was treated for a possible concussion and released; he is scheduled to return to work tonight.
The Ocean Shores mother-daughter remain in Grays Harbor County Jail, on total bail of $100,000 each.

Oh, brother. You are all so nice it hurts. But I have been acquainted with the growing number of situations like this over here in Ozark Shores for fifteen years. Sometimes I feel like I’m living the book Black Like Me, except it would be called Loser Like Me.
It is true that many of the people involved in altercations such as this are sad cases, but the root cause is not mental illness or alcohol (or other drugs). We must stop shifting the blame to the irrelevant. Alcohol and mental illness do not cause crime, as evidenced by the number of mentally ill and alcoholics causing no problem to others (and my heart goes out to those unfortunate folks who are quietly living with their problems).
The root cause of crime is the lack of *respect* for others.
Respect for others and the law is a diminishing asset of our country because our society has lost the concept of “individual rights.” Instead, there is a resurrected belief that society owes each individual a “fair” shake (repeated by Obama) and that one is justified to violate the true rights of faceless others (Occupy).
I share the concern for the change in our “village.” The source of the noted problem in Ocean Shores is a growing population of non-working young–and I consider 42 to be young–who believe that society is responsible for them, that society is neglecting that responsibility, and therefore, they are OK to violate the law in various ways great and small.
One way to minimize the increase in crime in our “village” is to stop the city plan to turn genuine camping lots into residential lots, and stop allowing people to live year-round on those lots.
The people in question are on a lot that was once year-round-camping, but the city changed the nature of the neighborhood by changing the zoning to “residential.”
I agree with the other comments. So sad and sorry that we handle these situations with prison. I also know the officers involved…gentlmen both, and very caring of this village. So sorry Shaun & Paul. Please don’t loose heart.
I am very concerned about our village. We all came to the area for a reason and it’s sad to see when someone comes to our town with the wrong ideas bouncing in their heads.
Unfortunately, alchohol turns off any intelligence a person might have and turns on STUPID, when taken in excess. Proof once again.
Two more wasted lives- so sad there is so much stupidity!!
