This is a great idea, many smaller cities in the state use out of county jails to house longer than 30 commitments as a cost saving measure. There is a statewide coop transport system so there is no cost to then individual cities, I.E. NO OVERTIME on the part of the city. The costs to house are less expensive and if someone thinks they might get shipped out maybe they will think twice before doing the crime. This is a great fiscal idea…
When you read the Wapato contract that was provided by Tom in the article you can see that Wapato provides the transportation of prisoners and not Ocean Shores. If you take the time to ask anyone with knowledge on this, like anyone at the police department you would find that they have had contracts with Wapato before and this was the case. For a prison sentence for 6 months, it’s a savings of $2700. This could add up. Sounds like a good idea to me
extreeeeeemly stupid idea!
Oh man, the Wapato idea is going to be whitewashed by those who have no idea what they are agreeing to! This is a waste of the Cities money at the highest level! Is an agreement to an agency 5 hours away the most efficient idea for a City in financial crisis? Don’t think for a moment they are going to be responsible for the costs of transport, it is going to go to those who are transporting them on overtime! There are too many other options which are more fiscally responsible, check out the options of other jurisdictions in the County. Bad move for us, and sad for those who are responsible for these decisions…
WAPATO?
Can’t wait for posts.
