High Wind Watch: Power outages possible
From Grays Harbor County Emergency Management: A High Wind Watch will be in effect from 10am – 10pm today. Rain showers through the day with a possibility of 1-2” of snowfall in higher elevations this afternoon. This storm may have sustained winds of 29-35 mph gusting 40-55 mph along the Coast. Gusty winds can snap tree branches and cause power outages. Grays Harbor County Emergency Management is urging all citizens along the coast to prepare for possible power outages.
Next Week – Weather is expected to return to normal with rain showers most of the week and breezy conditions along the coast.
Avoid Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
Carbon monoxide is an odorless, invisible gas that can kill. Carbon monoxide comes from burning fuels such as gasoline, propane, oil, kerosene, natural gas, coal or wood. Carbon monoxide poisoning is preventable:
- Only use portable generators outdoors and far from open windows and vents.
- Never use a generator indoors, in garages or carports.
- Never use a gas or charcoal grill, hibachi, or portable propane heater to cook indoors or heat your home.
- If you use a portable space heater indoors, be sure to leave a window open 1-2” to provide ventilation. Never fill a Space Heater indoors!
Carbon monoxide poisoning can strike suddenly and without warning. Physical symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning may include splitting headache, nausea, vomiting, lethargy and fatigue. If you or a family member believes that they could be experiencing carbon monoxide poisoning, get out of the property and call 911 immediately from a neighbor’s home.
DO NOT venture near downed trees, broken tree limbs or power lines!
1) There is a High Wind Watch in effect from 10am until 10pm Sunday with a forecast of high sustained coastal winds of 29-35 mph, gusting to 40-55 mph.
2) A Flood Watch is in effect for the Chehalis River in Grays Harbor County. At this time, the river is NOT EXPECTED to reach Flood Stage at Porter.
3) There is a High Surf Advisory Sunday for waves building to 20 feet from the West.
LANDSLIDE POSSIBILITIES:
All soils are saturated. There will be rain for the next few days which could increase the possibility of landslide hazards on elevated grounds , bluffs and overhangs. Please be extremely alert for ground shifting
