Weight of Snow & Ice on Structures
Grays Harbor County Emergency Management is alerting all citizens that the snow we received yesterday was extremely wet and heavy. The additional weight from the ice today is adding to the problem. Please be aware of possible collapse to awnings and structures not in sound condition. Be extremely cautious if you attempt to clear the snow from a roof area or awning. Your weight may be what will trigger a collapse. Please consult with a professional before clearing any snow from your roof.
Also, make sure to clear any drains and downspouts around your home so the water can drain freely. You may need to do this numerous times over the next few days.
IF YOU LOSE POWER – DO NOT USE FUEL POWERED GENERATORS OR HEATERS INDOORS, NEAR WINDOWS OR DOORS. Carbon monoxide poisoning is deadly and can strike suddenly and without warning. Physical symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning may include splitting headache, nausea, vomiting, lethargy and fatigue. If you or a family member believes that they could be experiencing carbon monoxide poisoning, get out of the property and call 911 immediately from a neighbor’s house.
