Coastal Radar coming soon
Press release just in, from the National Weather Service on the Copalis Beach radar station:
Construction on the new coastal Doppler weather radar continues with great progress! This is an update on what is expected in the next couple of weeks.
This afternoon (click here for photos):
- the tower is raised – the legs and bracing making it ready for the radome floor and the radome. The tower will go up fairly slowly, one subsection at a time. While fascinating to watch for those who enjoy such things, there won’t be a big ‘ta-da’ moment as there will be when the radome is raised.
- A time lapse of this long 10-hour process could be a good ‘photo opportunity’. If interested, please let us know.
- if interested in stopping by for a few photos and a story update, again please let us know.
- this event is more suitable for those who would like in-progress shots
Late next week or the week after:
- the tower Top Plate, radome, pedestal, and antenna will be raised.
- the radome and pedestal are in transit now (from Massachusetts and Mississippi respectively)
- after the radome and pedestal arrive, the radome will be assembled on the ground (the Top Plate is used to assemble the radome).
- crane arrives and lifts the dome onto the tower, a truly photo-worthy event where the drama can be captured in only a few minutes of video.
- we plan to be there to help with your story
As the radome raising date firms up, we will let you know.
