Snow, wind, ice on the way
From the county: The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Washington Coast and Southwest interior from 1pm this afternoon until 10pm tonight. The National Weather Service is predicting that Grays Harbor County could receive between 1-3” of snow beginning at 4pm (during rush hour), and ending sometime between 9pm -10pm tonight. Very gusty winds will increase along the Coastal areas to 30 -35 mph sustained with gusts to 50 mph.
The snow will turn to rain between 9pm and 10pm and the temperatures will remain well above freezing into late Friday.
Due to the temperatures just below the freezing mark today, the event will begin as snow, which will stick to roadways and there is a possibility of freezing rain during the change from snow to all rain later in the evening.
FORECAST
Today: Daytime high temperatures just below the freezing mark with snow beginning after 4pm. 1-3” of snow is predicted throughout the County. South Southeast Winds will increase along the Coast to 30 -35 mph sustained with gusts to 50 mph.
Tonight: Snow ending between 9pm -10pm. Rain continuing into Wednesday. Temperatures rising to well above the freezing mark. Windy with gusts to 45mph.
Wednesday: Showers, temperatures in the high 30’s to low 40’s. Southwest winds at 30-37 mph sustained, gusting to 50 mph then subsiding through the night into early Thursday.
Grays Harbor County Emergency Management is alerting all citizens that Hazardous Driving Conditions during “Rush Hour” this afternoon and evening are expected. Freezing rain could also impact the area during the snow to rain transition between 9pm and midnight.
Be alert for power outages from fallen tree limbs and power lines due to the gusty winds. NEVER venture near fallen power lines or tree limbs.DO NOT use portable generators indoors. DO NOT use charcoal grills indoors to cook or heat your home. NEVER refuel portable generators or heaters indoors. Become aware of the warning signs of Carbon Monoxide poisoning!
