LACEY — Ihya Bastian scored six points in overtime as unbeaten North Beach opened Pacific League play by edging Northwest Christian on Saturday at Lacey.
Bastian scored 17 points, including a critical 3-point basket with 2:20 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Hyak Dramikha Skaar made a basket, assisted by Bastian, with six seconds in regulation to force overtime.
The Hyaks (1-0, 6-0) played the late stretches of the contest without Tahnee McCrory, one of their top scorers, who fouled out with four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter after contributing 10 points and 13 rebounds.
“Perseverance was the key to the win,” said Hyak coach Brett Mackey. “We hit some big baskets during the crunch time. We made a lot of turnovers, but we made big plays and stops when we needed them. The girls composed themselves when things got tough.”
Nicole Mosley pulled down eight rebounds for the Hyaks and scored seven points.
Kami Bates led Northwest Christian with 18 points.
