FORKS — Derek Archer scored 11 of his 20 points in a pivotal third quarter as North Beach edged Forks in a non-league game Monday night at Forks.
Down 26-18 at the half, the Hyaks turned things around by outscoring the Spartans, 18-5, in the third period.
“We played a lot better defensively, a lot more fundamentally sound, and weren’t gambling as much,” Hyak coach Larry Moore said. “Our offense came alive, too, but a lot of that was generated by the intensity on defense.”
North Beach’s Jason Fry finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds Preston Vick handed out four assists, while Trey Jennings blocked a couple of shots.

FORKS — Shaking off a slow first half, North Beach found a balanced scoring touch to drive its offense past Forks in this non-league contest on Monday.
Tahnee McCrory led all scorers with 13 points, 11 rebounds and five assists for the Hyaks (4-0).
“In the first half, I didn’t think we executed that well at all,” North Beach head coach Brett Mackey said. “In the second half, we finally got into a groove. They’r recognizing the fact they’re balanced enough to take what the defense gives them. They weren’t forcing things, especially in the second half.”
Iyha Bastian (13 points), Dramikha Skaar (11 points) and Wakeena DeLaCruz (10 points) added double-digit scoring for North Beach.
Coach Mackey also cited the team’s discipline with just 15 turnovers, 10 coming in the first half.
“We took care of the ball way better in the second half,” he added.
On Friday, North Beach travels to Montesano.
