Dear tax payers: Folks, thanks so much for voting “yes” on the EMS and Library lid lifters (way to lift those lids!). Oh, and of course, thanks in advance for those Street LID payments (trust us: every penny of that $44 million is accounted for!). Now let’s talk 2011: we’re going to need just a little bit more of your hard-earned money. C’mon, just 1 percent, don’t be stingy! And don’t make a fuss, no one likes complainers! Again: trust us. We really, really need it, and we oh-so-very-much promise to spend it wisely.
Stay prosperous,
Your Local Government

The timing of this sucks and displays a total arrogance of the council members who voted for it. Four less council members would go a long way toward a better OS.
Translated into us poor suckers english: We are not nearly done robbing you blind.
Why bother going to the so called ‘city’ council meetings when you say something they don’t like, they just edit you out of their view of ‘open’ meeting, both DVD and printed minutes. They give the citizens of Ocean Shores the illusion of having a vote. NOPE, they do what they want, when they want and keep blood sucking the citizens.
Dear Peggy Berry, My husband works for Boeing and this is a statement of fact, not a complaint. The statement is this, as a member of IAM 751 as a contract negotiated benefit we receive a cola, distributed quarterly and rolled in to base wages anually. However, it’s based on a complicated system of measurements which has resulted in over two years now of NO cola. The seniors in our country are facing their second year of NO cola. I appreciate very much the hard working members of the City of Ocean Shores, some of whom I have spoken to and received good advice from….it’s not really a question of whether or not the city workers deserved it, it’s a question of whether or not we can afford it!
It is clear the City Council is blind to the reality of the situation. It’s discouraging for Peggy Berry to say the employees deserve a raise. Apparently the concern is not there for those of us who pay the taxes in this city!
We, the citizens of this city, are being both used and abused by those who pretend to work in our bests interests! It’s time to really consider unincorporation. There’s no way we can be worse off than we are now….
What a shock, of course city council approved the property tax increase with Dave Creighton & Peggy Barry leading the charge. Unbelieveable! How do these people even pretend to say they represent the people. Additionally when I told them the amount of money that was allocated in the “budget” for increase in payroll & benefits Peggy Berry blatantly said the city workers deserved it. OK maybe they do, but so does every other working person out there that is paying those taxes & levies. But minimum wage is only going up $.16 and there are departments that the allocations show 58% increase over 2010. Ah council would you like to explain please. This city already overpays people, they want to replace retirees and people who quit …OK…but wheres the money coming from? Oh yeah I forgot lets just raise more taxes.
A much as some citizens would like to attend the council meetings and voice their opinions, it is not always feasible. Some of us must work to pay our bills, and that often means night shifts etc. My attendance at previous council sessions re: the LID seemed almost pointless. Citizens who spoke were obviously frustrated and council members/mayor/dept.heads just looked bored. I agree with others that major spending decisions are being made by overpaid self-serving department heads with little or no investigation by the elected officials. Why bother with elections at all?
Well folks, I just can’t let this one pass so consider this:
This city is currently being run and controlled by the city department heads, union employees with their exorbetant salaries, city attorney.and our “new”former finance director. Our “strong mayor” and most of the council just do what they are told by these people.
Pleading from citizens won’t work!! they really won’t!!
This city needs to show up to every council meeting, like they did for the LID hearing and public comment these people to death. The services of the above mentioned are no longer required
Maybe they will take the hint from Aberdeen. No 1% increase. However, like them they will raise the Ambulance Fee. Oh, you say what ambulance fee. Well that is the one that we were told would only last 1 year. They just misspoke. It should have been “one year” as in some time in the future but not 1 year. There is a difference.
Anyone want to buy my house? This is getting old, you can guarantee the council will approve the tax hike…blindly as usual!
Remember when the council members would talk and talk during their elections how they would stand up for the citizens and be a representative for them regarding issues that were important for them? Obviously it was more talk than action, they will approve the property tax increase because they are not willing to control the cities budget! Remember when?
Council members, please stand up for what is necessary, not what is easiest for yourselves! Lower the cities expenditures, and lay off employees if necessary. There are too many greedy employees who are concerned for their own benefit and not willing to help solve the problem!
End the suffering council members, and do what is right for everyone for once…
