Property taxes: 2011 v. 2010
With the EMS and Library property tax increases that were narrowly approved by voters, Ocean Shores will collect a total of nearly $800,000 more in property taxes in 2011, compared to 2011. (The “2011 Recommended Budget” calls for a “continuation of the EMS ambulance Utility,” dubbed by unhappy hotels and motels “the toilet tax.”) With the new construction of 2010 added to the 1 percent property tax increase the Mayor is asking for, that adds another $50,000-$100,000, 2011 over 2010.

Thank you very much CitizensAgainstCrime I enjoy your postings very much. I will follow up with your information and let you know what I find out.
RCW 35.15 http://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=35A.15 Good read!! Possible good plan.
I can not believe it. The utility tax was for 2010. We passed the EMS levy. That starts in Jan. 2011. The utility tax was to be dropped at the end of this year. Now the budget includes raises? They should be recalled right now. Any civilian job would have fired these half witts months ago.
Does anyone know how to start an un incorpation initiative. We will be so much better off with the county. Our taxes would be less and and managers would know how to spell their name. I think it will have great support. It is time.
I find it absolutely an insult to the residents of Ocean Shores that the mayors budget would increase property taxes once again and also includes $1,052,620.00 for salary & benefit increases to every department covered by this “budget”. QUIT SPENDING & freeze wages & benefits! The landowners of this town do not have unlimited funding for you to mismanage. Get out of my wallet and start cutting expenses. You do not need a dog catcher year round, nor do you need all the law enforcement officers yr round. I know its a tough call but really winter occupancy is not even close to summer and lots of city workers need to be layed off or cut back to get through. You have overspent now suffer the same consequences that the homeowners do. CUT BACK!!!
Just out of curiosity….. What happens if the council refuses to approve the mayor’s budget by the deadline?
Are the “authorities” going to come and haul them away in chains?
By aproving the EMS and Library property tax increases the Public has given the City Council who have mismanaged funds again and again more money.
Do we have the new construction number from the assessor? I thought the EMS Utility was going to sunset Dec. 31, 2010 if we got the EMS Levy passed. Is that another lie? Stick their arm with another rolled up dollar bill and inject that money!! The addicts keep wanting more junk!! When are the auto tab increases going to come??? What about downtown parking meters? Pay toilets? Pay to talk to city hall or council. Art the attorney can loan them his billing software.
