Dear Creighton and the other OS City bureaucrats,
YOU WORK FOR US, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND! You chose a public career; that means WE pay your salaries so WE should have as much access to what you make as we please. If you don’t like it, QUIT!
WAKE UP!!
I really do not understand why anyone should be surprised by anything the Ocean Shores City Council would say or do. This current council and help from previous council members from what I have seen have buried this City so deep in debt, mistrust, and no confidence in City Government no one should be surprised. I am sorry to say but I think they are doing the best they can with the skill levels they possess. It may be worse than that after reading about the people that objected to how the City assessed properties and came up with a payment plan for the LID. They no longer think for themselves and common sense is a thing of the past.
Gee what would happen if every interested person made that request? After all it is public record…if they don’t like doing their job then get out!
Maybe is we published more information and kept the web site up to date we would know many of the facts that people have to do FOI requests for. Maybe a MORE detailed budget is needed. The current format leaves much to desire. It is general at best. Very little detail. Salaries should be broken out so people can see each and every salary and benefits. That way they can look at what they make and compare it to these people. Also, vehicle use, fuel used and other incidentals should be reflected. If someone lives in OS their fuel use for a city vehcile should be lower than someone who lives further away. Also, more consolidation up to each department head should be done. Then the empire each has is more evident.
Wasn’t this the same city councilman who earlier remarked that he couldn’t understand why citizens don’t trust their council/government? Heaven forbid that we are actually tasking the city clerk to do the job she is getting quite a handsome salary to perform. If they have nothing to hide, why are they even questioning these requests? Why is this information so closely guarded that we have to use public records requests to obtain it in the first place?
It rings true to the old adage that you don’t hang out dirty laundry to dry, for fear the neighbors might see it.
And what does he think he has to hide? Or maybe he is ashamed.
