High school football
A spirited crowd and homecoming activities made for a fun atmosphere. . . but the North Beach High football team took a loss to Mossyrock. Daily World story:
Vikings 49, Hyaks 6
OYEHUT — Mossyrock capitalized on North Beach’s slow start to wallop the Hyaks in non-league play Friday at Oyehut.
The Vikings had TD runs of 17, 6 and 10 yards in the first quarter. They jumped out in the second quarter for another 3-yard TD run before the Hyaks (2-5) scored their lone touchdown.
Hyak Derek Archer found the end zone on a 4-yard run. He had a 67-yard pass reception called back 11/2 minutes prior to that by a block in the back penalty.
The Vikings (3-4) scored another TD before the half on a 13-yard run, making the score 35-6 at halftime.
Archer was the leading rusher for the Hyaks, with 15 carries for 66 yards. He also had three receptions for 17 yards.
“We were lethargic and slow, and they (the Vikings) were playing fast and hard,” said Hyak coach Robin Andrea. “We didn’t play well in the first quarter and we were not tackling them. After the first quarter, there was a lot of back and forth play. We need to do better with our passing.”
Andrea praised Archer for fine play offensively, including a successful onside kick. He also commended Archer and Jason Fry for good defensive play.
The Hyaks travel to Naselle on Friday.
