The $250 appeal fee
Was not on last night’s agenda, as council rep Jackie Farra had requested. Last night, she said she wanted to eliminate the $250 filing fee to appeal the Hearing Examiner’s Street LID recommendations. She was told she would first have to make a motion to have it added to the agenda. She made the motion, Gordon Broadbent seconded. Mayor Garland French called for a vote on the motion. For: Farra, Broadbent. Opposed: Dave Creighton, Bob Crumpacker, John Lynn, Dick Skewis. (Not present: Peggy Berry.) The motion was killed, the $250 fee stands.

Thank you Citizens Against Crime. Of the 14000 lots we currently only have 4700 that live here. The protest meeting schedule made it pretty hard for the others to attend. I believe the number of unsatisfied owners is a lot larger than those who protested. Some are just sick and tired of the same old routine from our leaders. If your happy with things then that is great. Thank God that in America those who are not happy can still speak up.
Strange, some feel that 500 are sufficent to change the speed limits. Others want the whole 14,000 lots to complain. How about the fact that they gave no instructions, forms or protocol to complain to those that did get their letters. Maybe some have just thrown up their arms in disgust. Maybe it is just that the masses have given in to the small cadre of people who are listened to.
How about the “desires and needs” of SOME of the people?
After all, there were a lot more than 923 folks (something like 11 or 12 thousand more) that DIDN’T find it worthwhile to complain.
When you get right down to it, it seems to be a very small cadre that does all the complaining.
I have high hopes that the people are mad enough and remember what our leaders have done to us that a strong voter turnout will reflect our anger.
We have to use screen names for fear of reprisal when we post our feelings. Myself and many others I know have experienced the power games they play.
Vote them out and demand resignations for the ones who continue to ignor the desires and needs of the people of our city.
It was interesting to observe how the mayor can totally ignore Robert’s rules of order by immediately calling for a vote on a motion and not even opening up the motion for discussion. Maybe the council should start having their meetings on a conference call and avoid having any citizen involvement whatsoever.
Unbelievable! I would love hear the reasoning by those who opposed the motion to explain atheir actions! The $250 filing fee is the biggest joke in a series of mis-steps by the representatives of the City who are supposed to work for the citizens, not make them angry by their pointless lack of action! Of course they will never explain why the opposed the motion, it is just a reminder of what is wrong with our City council since this whole LID fiasco was initially mentioned! I am actually embarrased and shamed by their actions, at least I know now who needs to go in the council, and why actually care about the citizens in this community…
