Farra: “Why the $250 fee?”
At last night’s meeting, council member Jackie Farra said she was supporting those complaining about the $250 it will cost to appeal to city council the hearing examiners’ decision. (Examiner Wayne Tanaka’s decisions on the 900-plus protests are due on Monday, Oct. 4.) She wants the issue on the next agenda.
The case for the fee, as presented by attorney Art Blauvelt: Ocean Shores needs the money, to pay for the cost of preparing defenses to challenges.
Some arguments against the fee: It would prevent some who would otherwise challenge the decision. Plus, Ocean Shores has already set aside $250,000 of the LID money, for “Legal fees (hearing and appeals).” See p. 24 of Ken Lanfear’s city public hearing presentation.

Its always fun to be first to state the obvious. Councilman Farra surely should be able to see and understand that $250.00 X 900= $225,00.00 if everyone actually paid this ridiculous fee. Lets face it folks – this town is broke and needs to squeeze every nickel it can out of the tax payers over this LID mess. This is easy money for the city to make on top of the $250,000.00 that our EDITED city attorney would expect to have at his disposal to defend the city from the governed. Who is really looking out for his future paychecks here?? DAAA!! The city attorney wants to defend the public works director, himself, previous finance managers, previous city managers, and past elected council members for their collective poor oversight and management of the LID Project. I emplore Councilman Farra to stand up and do the right thing and be a voice for the people of this community to help stop the bleeding of our citizens.
