RIG the LID
Thursday, Sept. 2 (corrected, NOT Sept. 10), 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Ocean Shores Library: Readers Input Group (RIG) meeting on the Street LID. The Mayor, Public Works Director and City Council members have been invited (no word on if any of them will be there). A chance to ask questions about the process, and give your input on how the newspaper should cover this.
In a nutshell, “What do people need to know? What are people confused about?”

Maybe post it here also. There are people that read the blog to find out more information and it is more timely than the paper.
Answer to CAC Question 1: Next week’s North Coast News. (Assuming I’ve figured it out by then . . .)
When will the paper tell people the process so those that are not in Ocean Shores are aware of what is next after the letter, the appeals hearing, the council appeal and court. How about when the bill is going to be due? When will they tell us the discount amount and also the amount if paid over years? How about how many years? That is what is on many people’s minds.
So, What happened??? Was it as interesting as the meeting at the church? Pitchforks? Torches? We now have a roundabout which would make for a great public stock or hanging location.
In a “nutshell”, what I am most confused about and would like to know the answer to is this: My original estimated cost of Assessment is $2,732 based on a total cost of $31,784,114.22. I understand about the $8,000,000.00 ‘ooops’ adding an additional 25% to the project aproximately…and I understand that the cost of the bonds is a 10% added to the total as well….
My calculator gives me a total of $3,756.50, so why is my new ‘Proposed Assessment’ $4,462? I realize that I might be splitting hairs here, but if this is any indication of how things are done in Ocean Shores, is does not bode well for planning a budget on a fixed income in our retirement, and I certainly can understand why others who are dealing with that situation right now are so upset. When you are already upset with a mistake made by city management that will add 25% to the total of your bill, finding out that it really is a 47% increase is a frightening thing.
Green Bean hit the nail on the head: “this town is full of irresponsible, selfish, egotistical, and just plain rude folks who don’t really care about anyone but themselves.” I suggest that we are nothing more than a microcosm of what’s happening in this country. We are so lost in the Cult of Individualism that we have forgotten that we are a social animal and as such have responsibilities to the rest of the herd. Instead, it’s all me, me, me. What a pathetic peoples we have become.
But then what do you expect from a town where the minority of citizens force the majority of its citizens to pay dues in a private social/recreational club or take their property if they don’t. Unlike GB, I’m out of here. I don’t want to move, but living here is getting to be beyond our fixed income and I don’t want to live among people that think it’s all right to extort money from their neighbors.
Oh, I did try to do some good in this town when we first moved here: I attended all the council meetings; made suggestions (only one of which – cleaning up the signs at the gate – was acted upon); chaired the airport committee; and coordinated litter patrols. Then when the chief of police publicly insulted me using to full force and weight of his office and the mayor and city manager wouldn’t do anything about it, I resigned all of it.
I’ve also been an outspoken opponent of the Extortion Central – sometimes called the Community Club (another misnomer) – but the minority of members that use the club and the club’s attorney have created a situation where the majority of members have no say. People in this town let this abomination continue because the majority don’t live here and don’t understand what the club does to maintain control. Their favorite trick with me now, is anytime I ask for information that I have a legal right under WA’s RCW, my request is forwarded to the “legal department” and I never hear another word. How people can support an organization that goes against everything this country used to stand for is beyond me.
Now if I can just find someone to buy my house…
G.B.: You must have missed the announcement that there were several seats available, in the front row. While there were at least 20 people standing, there were about six empty seats.
I will guarantee that at the RIG meeting,r your wife, and anyone else with a disability, will receive preferential seating. All others first come, first seated, no saving.
So, would I be able to find a seat at your RIG meeting or will it be another standing room only event? I ask only because my wife and I were denied seats at the church meeting by some old geezer who was holding seats for friends who had not shown up by 6pm. Even though he could see my wife was using a caine and disabled, he would not relinquish room for us to sit down. The room was filed way beyond capacity and surely exceeded maximum fire safety codes for a public gahtering. We probably would not have been able to stay long either way since the room was filled with people who had not bathed recently and older women wearing to much perfume. I’m clearly coming to the conclusion that this town is full of irresponsible, selfish, egotistical, and just plain rude folks who don’t really care about anyone but themselves. between the local wealthy elite’s and those who think the city is a bottomless pit of money for every project, study, lawsuit that comes along, there seems like someone is going to be in my back pocket for money every time I turn around.
Oh and by the way, for those who say “if your not happy just leave”, I say NO Way! Those who are incompitant, or who are employee’s or elected officials who don’t serve this communitys best interests, they need to leave – Please…
Oh, and also by the way, the next time a group wants to hold a public meeting of this magnitude, it should be held in our own community covention center with room for everyone!
Maybe the Paper should print a copy of the study cover information without the demographic garbage that the consultant threw in there like fat for sausage. Makes it sizzle, but adds little to the product. Then the people without computers could see what he said he did. Now all we have is chest beating and little more. Should be an interesting meeting. I know who will be telling everyone to just pay it and shut up. Who cares if you understand it. You will be told that there is asphalt on the streets and you got what you paid for it. We can’t do anything about the poor financial and product management now you will be told. The consultant is the one who developed the whole idea, consults to figure it out and people who deal with it all the time will adjudicate it. The bond consultant does not care if you wait, it just makes the offering larger and thus they make even more. Each making their thousands more. It is like buying fill for your property. One guy gets charged to have it dug out and trucked away and the other guy gets charged for trucking it in and dumping it on his property. The guy doing the digging, trucking and dumping makes money on both sides.
