More on the Hospital District
Al Carter called Monday’s public hearing “the first of many meetings on this topic.” No decisions were made, other than to continue to study the boundaries, and take more comments at public hearings, the next at the County Commissioner’s meeting on Sept. 13. “The real fun will be when we go out to Ocean Shores for hearings,” Carter added.

You might wnat to get current. Mark Reed is building their new hospital now. It is going to be in Elma. Also, the Hospital District #1 for GH levy for 2010 is .5117876. Also, their property valuation is lower than the North Beach School District. The GHHD#1 has a valuation of 1.174 Billion dollar valuation. Our area has a 1.7 Billion dollar valuation. Therefore, if we generated an equal amount $589,275 we would have a lower assessment of less than 35 cents. There is a big difference there. Since this is in the development state, the funds needed to start the studies would be considerably less. Again, taking it one step at a time. By the way, they are operating both a hospital and a clinic now. They also have an 8.5 Million dollar annual budget.
Check out the financials of the “poster-child” Mark Reed.
In 2007 the tax rate for Hospital District #1(Mark Reed) was at .60 per 1,000. (and that doesn’t include the Fire and EMS tax, which those in the district also pay.) Plus they didn’t have to build and staff a hospital. They already had one when the district was formed back in the ’80’s.
The county has nothing to do with Ocean Shores local government. What is going on here is to create a NORTH BEACH HOSPITAL DISTRICT. Ocean Shores is not the center of the world. Therefore, it would tax and serve the WHOLE North Beach. A unique idea for Ocean Shores where we try to have Ocean Shores pay for it and let everyone else use it. Because of confusion as to which RCWs applied, these people are having trouble getting the question before the whole North Beach. Strange, over 300 people signed the petition to get it this far. I guess they see a need for medical services. Maybe they thought medical services were more important than library services. Also, many realize that EMS personnel, no matter how great you think they are, are not LVNs, RNs PAs, MDs, or even DOs. There is a difference. Also, this whole process takes years and you have to start somewhere. I know everyone wants everything yesterday, but that is not possible. So, you have to start somewhere. Little steps get you to more.
The nay sayers here do not understand that EMS will improve when more medical services are available. People will be able to access medical services more and more over time locally. Remember, slowly grow it. We did not get EMS to where it was over night. It was a station wagon back in the 70s.
What are these people smoking. And where was Al Carter when Ocean Shores got ripped by the county assessor in 2007?
