Hotel/Motel dip
After six consecutive months of increases, compared to 2009, the Ocean Shores Hotel/Motel tax for the month of May was down about 5% compared to 2009 ($54,152 in 2010, $56,095 in 2009). The good news: year-to-date is $327,142, up 9% over the same time frame in 2009. (The numbers are two months behind actual time, meaning the last two months of 2009 are included in the 2010 numbers.)
The not-so-great news: That $327,142 is the second-lowest total at this point in the last 12 years. (The lowest total was last year’s.) The numbers were released at yesterday’s Promotions Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting.

No, it means that they are not staying at the hotels and motels. It means they come for the day and leave what they don’t want in the car on the beach. Heck, last week some people even left their sleeping “friend” on the beach to find his way home to Puyallup.
does this equate to less trash on the beach?
Here comes the double dip recession. I wonder if they will name an ice cream after it.
