Library levy is passing
After this afternoon’s count, released by the County, “Approve” votes have a slim lead over “Reject” in the Ocean Shores Library lid lift/levy measure.
- Approve 1,047 (50.17%)
- Reject 1,040 (49.83%)
According to Julie Murphy of the Elections Department, there are still 427 questionable ballots to be resolved; 211 are ballots that may have multiple votes in one category that have to be decided on in-house, and 216 are “bad signatures,” with voters notified by mail that they must respond to have their votes counted. Murphy had “no idea” how many of the 427 questionable ballots were from Ocean Shores.

If it wins, we have only $1.085 left before we hit the cap. Think of what they can get on the Feb. ballot? Maybe April? Road Maintenance (50 cents), Building Maintenance (50 cents, and who knows what else- Interpretive Center (8 cents). That means that you will be paying $674 dollars to the city each year for that 200K house. That is vs. the $458 now if this passes. They still can extend the $28.56 EMS Utility. It only takes a vote. They are addicted to the money they lost from the improper cost allocation practices of the past. Go back and see what the budget would look like if we had never started the practice. Then see where we should be now. Size ourselves to the property tax, the only sure thing in Ocean Shores, and use B&O, Sales, and other fees as special funds for special things. Stop trying to live on those. Maybe the Hoquiam Model will rub off on Ocean Shores.
Correct, which is what…15 to 25 cents per ballot? I’m not sure.
Operative word “can”. The citizens can ask for a recount if they want to pay the fee.
I’ve heard that there is no mandatory recount for a less than 1% margin on issues, only between candidates.
Poor Michelle. Every other person through the library doors asks if we know anything about the levy yet (not to mention the phone calls). Another 5 days…
Not final. They have another count on the 25th and currently show 50 ballots to count. There may be more in the mail that have to come in too. Then if there is less than 1% difference there can be a recount.
Is this a final?
