First half O.S. taxes breakdown
Looks like Ocean Shores is on pace for a good year in tax collection. Through June 30, the city has collected $2.15 million, or 49.71% of the year’s budget of $4.33 million; Art Wuerth, the finance director, said that the Utility Tax – Waterworks is a few months behind, so that would bring the total to just over 50%. General Property Tax collections, the biggest tax revenue source, are at $1.3 million, or 55% of the budgeted $2.4 million. The second biggest, Sales Tax – General, is at $316,000, or 48% of the year’s budget of $656,000; the year-to-date total does not include July, August and September, typically by far the biggest months for sales tax.
Taxes make up 88% of the budgeted General Fund revenues. The second biggest revenue source, Licenses & Permits, is far ahead of pace, with year-to-date revenues of $207,890, or 70% of the budgeted $295,650. The third biggest General Fund revenue source, Intergovernmental Revenue, had year-to-date of $110,555, or 87% of the budgeted $127,211. The Beginning Fund Balance, commonly (though not, technically, correctly) called “reserves,” was penciled in at $611,058 at the beginning of 2010; as of June 30, it was at $840,909.
As of June 30, Total Revenues and Beginning Fund Balance was $3.39 million, or 61% of the projected year-end total of $5.53 million.

Babblynn, I’ve been fighting this CC ever since I found out there was a lien on our property (OUR real estate agent never said a word and there was NOTHING on ANYTHING we signed). The CC is based on a falsehood (adds value to property) and some moron of a judge bought it. Since then, the CC has done everything it can to prevent folks like us who favor voluntary membership from either speaking out or becoming board members. It’s a sad day for America when someone can be forced to pay dues into a recreational club and have their property taken from them if they don’t.
That and the fact the idiots running this town are taxing those of us on a fixed income right out of town. With the roads and yet another water treatment plant to be paid for, we’re going to have to sell and move; we simply can’t afford to live here anymore. I voted no on the library – even though I’d use it and would miss it – because we (personally) simply can’t afford more taxes. It almost enough to make me join the Republican Party – except they screwed up the nation’s economy and are no longer fiscally conservative.
Such a small amount. Perhaps the CC (WHICH WE NEVER USE) could start paying into something worthwhile, instead of property liens. (We have two properties…one where we live and another where we installed our parents.) WE PAY TWO DUES A YEAR AND OUR PARENTS STILL HAVE TO PAY A DOLLAR SHOULD THEY CHOOSE TO USE THE CC. $300 a year for WHAT??? Nothing. They won’t even discuss our folks, who would certainly benefit. Disgusting.
