Maybe they should have two half days for these people and then there would be no comp time or overtime. Too many exceptions and excuses. We start sounding like Bell CA every day. At least those people corrected their behavior. Here, not likely. Next year should be interesting. Get ready for the 3.37 levy!! It is on the drawing board.
I really hope D is the answer but I have a feeling that I am way way off given their crazy spending habits !?!
One of the “costs” mentioned that was a substantial part of the $2000 per meeting was the “overtime” or “comp time” paid to department heads that have to attend the meetings.
I would think that if it is a required part of their duties to attend, said attendance should be part of their regular job description, not something special that rates extra pay/comp time. When I was working I was classified as exempt or salaried
which meant there was no “hourly” extra consideration unless the “overtime” was something occasional and unplanned for.
The city ordinance for council meetings reads as follows:
The regular meetings of the city council shall be held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at six p.m. in the convention center.
Notice the key word “shall”. This typically translates to the word “will”, and I can find no place that gives the council the authority to have less than two meetings a month. Therefore, whatever the meetings cost, it appears council has no choice other than to meet twice a month. Please correct me if you can find an exception to this rule.
I would hope D, but I suspect C might be the answer. If it is, something needs to be done about it.
