North Beach recycling
Comments from the beach clean-up spun off in the recycling direction, so here’s a post for people to comment, share tips, gripes and (who knows?) maybe even start a movement to up-grade local recycling, and get us some of that curb-side glass recycling that other cities have had since, oh, way back in the last century . . .

Still no word back from Mark Cox. Makes me wonder…
Yep, pizza boxes or any food soiled paper products go in our yard waste along with food scraps. In Seattle if you put it in your garbage can intead they will fine you, it’s mandatory. I don’t put meat in mine because I don’t want maggots, yuck. But all our yard waste goes to big composting companies in the area that compost it all and sell it back to us as mulch or compost for our yards. Pay to take it away and pay to bring it back : )At least it’s going to good use instead of just filling up land fills.
When I was talking to a friend, she was asking if we have a yard waste program here because she used to live where they could put pizza boxes in with the yard waste to be composted. I was pretty sure we don’t but does anyone know for sure?
Also she said if anyone has compost materials and they don’t have a composter the community garden has a spot for it.
When we lived in Graham, before moving down here full time a couple years ago, we had curbside glass recycling. And seperate bins for glass, metal, and paper. Then they went to the single large bin for everything like we have here. At that time, they stopped picking up glass because it was costing more than they could recover to do so due to the price of recycled glass being too low.
It’s not to difficult to collect the glass and take it to the recycle bin next to the animal shelter when I go into downtown on some other mission.
Thanks Ricki, I put his address in my contacts.
Also, here is Mark Cox’s e-mail address:
MCox@co.grays-harbor.wa.us
I have e-mailed him asking if there are any plans for better recycling services out here and if not, how we could go about implementing them.
I will let everyone know here when I get a reply
Thank you Tom! What a good host : )
