SAFER Ocean Shores
Details on the grant, from Chief Mike Styner:
The Ocean Shores Fire and Emergency Care Department received notification on Friday, June 25th, from the US Department of Homeland Security, that we have been awarded a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant in the amount of $166,866.00. This is a zero match grant. The grant funding becomes available on September 20, 2010 and the grant period is for two years ending on September 19, 2012. This grant will allow us to fill the laid-off firefighter/paramedic position in the fire and emergency care department.
I would like to commend Lt. Joe Hoffman, Lt. Brian Ritter, and Firefighter/Paramedic Joel White for all their hard work on this grant. It is because of their tireless efforts and attention to detail we have been awarded this grant.
M. Styner
Chief of Public Safety

I know how much work goes into obtaining grants from the government and appreciate the work these individuals have accomplished. However, do you think you will be able to hire people for one or two years then let them go? If you hire three people for one year then how would you pay for the second years salaries?
Thank You,
Jim B
Great job guys! Thanks for all of your hard work.
