Possible bear shooting
From KXRO radio: Ocean Shores Police are looking for a bear that may or may not have been shot by a homeowner this morning. Deputy Chief Russ Fitts says the man walked out of his Duck Lake Drive home at 7:00 this morning and saw the bear on his trash cans. Fitts says the man threw a rock at the bear, then went inside to get a handgun and shot one round at the animal as it reportedly approached him. The man claims to have hit the bear, but Fitts says no evidence of that has been found. Fish and Wildlife officials are being brought in to assist in the search.

1860!!! I an sure those were Union Bears eating some poor Rebel.
well, back in 1860, there was this fella who was setting out bait for trappin cougars. he fell into the bait and was all slathered in the stuff. along came a small family of black bears and they had themselves a taste. finding this fella too old and tough they decided then and there to become vegitarians. to this day black bears have stripped our forests of blueberries, blackberries, salmon berries and fiddle head ferns. this is the main reason you’ll never find a human head mounted on a black bears wall. don’t ask me about them cougars and grizz. they be scarey.
“I am concerned about my kids accidentally coming upon the bear”
When was the last time a kid was eaten by a bear in Ocean Shores?
These are not Alaskan Grizzlies, they are Black Bears.
Usually all that is needed to make them turn tail and run is a couple of claps of the hands and yelling loudly “Get out of here!”
Same thing works for raccoons, loose dogs, and sometimes neighborhood kids.
Let’s hope idiots who are shooting at bears don’t mistake any of the children for bear. Perhaps a call to 911 is a better choice that a gun. Besides, if you are actually going to shoot at it, you had better kill it, as a wounded bear is not going to have ANY tolerance toward anyone…not even children.
discharging a weapon inside city limits………..EDITED
I agree with “Chuck” on this one. Perhaps a well known number to call for “help with wild animals” might help worried residents. Better not wear a bear costume for any reason.
Chuck, I don’t think garbage is what everyone is worried about. I know I am concerned about my kids accidentally coming upon the bear. It is easy to be high and mighty if you are inside on the computer rather than staring down a bear.
Hey, I like NYC. How about Chicago…
People who value their garbage so much that they have to kill innocent bears to protect it should be forcibly relocated to a place like New York City where there is plenty of garbage and no bears.
