How we do it in the 289
Hey, I almost got stuck, first time I drove on the beach out here, so no heckling . . .
The nice story behind the photo:
From Becky Baker: “my kids and i rolled up on this family and their motor home stuck in the sand just off shilo exit last tuesday. they had been there half hour and no one would help them.
i asked the boys if they would like to see if they could help, they are 13 and 15 and they said yes. once there, they dug out the tires, placed boards under them, got in front of the motor home and as the driver backed up, they lifted up and pushed.
would you believe they got it unstuck in about 5 minutes with no help from another vehicle, tow strap or other assistive device!
if you look close at the photo, you can see the legs of my 15 year old sticking out from the back of the rig on the right as he dug out the tires.
the family was very grateful and gave the kids a couple of large bags of chips for their efforts and resulting rescue from the soft sand! “

we are proud to keep the traditions of our family alive! im really proud of my two young men and their willingness to jump in and help someone who needs it. some of the best memories my boys have are of the people they have helped out. from young families to the elderly by themself, each one is not forgotten in our hearts!!!
Becky comes from a long line of Washington beach goers who spent a lot of time helping stranded beach visitors extract their vehicles. Dating back to the early fifties my family (I am Becky’s aunt)spent most summers on the beaches of Long Beach and some of my fondest memories as a child were the excitement of helping stranded motorists. I now live a country away near a coastline with our own set of problems, the Gulf Coast of Florida. I am glad that Becky and her kids have followed in our family’s footsteps and continues a family tradition my father started. Keep up the good work, kid.
Big surprise…what would you think would happen? I hope the ocean got it!
i say just leave it there in the sand. i would make a nice replacement for the wonderful massive piece of driftwood that the touring folks burned up.
Nice job Becky and kids
Great story! Throw rugs work, too.
