Enormous Beach Pyramids!
Archaeologists today discovered giant beach pyramids at the Chance a la Mer (translation: “Take a chance at the beach!”) approach. As you can see from the photo below, the pyramids are some 3,000 feet high, making the two giraffes in the foreground look like tiny seagulls.

free sand at the pyramids. take all you want. use it wisely.
Ah, yes.
I have the best of both worlds out here, tourist and hideout. I do not miss the Big City mayhem at all–except maybe xmas shopping. It is way different from “tourist” mayhem to me now. But when I came here to hybernate, I probably didn’t appreciate the festive atmosphere like I do after a decade of hiding out.
Here’s hoping you all get to stay here year-round soon!
I guess it’s a perspective issue. I read that “hibernating” to separate oneself from the “influx of tourists” sounds a little like elitism. I suppose I could be mistaken, though.
Good thought marymary! Perhaps when we live with the peace and quiet for the rest of the year along with you, we’ll be able to enjoy the mayhem on the busy times too. Right now, we come over to escape the ‘maddening crowds’ : ) Last year I was in IGA twice on the weekend, and both times were very interesting to say the least, however the parking lot was a different story (scary! lol). I have no lack of patience with the wait or the crowds either, like you, almost enjoy the hubbub. I didn’t read any negativity in Ricki’s comment and mine certainly wasn’t intended that way, so I’m not sure what you are referring to birder?
I love it when the town is packed with tourists! It reminds me that this is a fairly civilized part of the world and people are still able to be productive and happy and enjoy their leisure. I take my dog for a walk in her brightest outfit and become a part of the local color. She looks like a stuffed animal, so we talk to strangers often and spread a little love around. Sometimes we run about town in/on one of my toys or my husband’s Harley. It is true that I stock up on necessities to avoid the need to rush, but I still occasionally find myself at the IGA in a line among the tourists for some forgotten item. It never bothers me. I love the noise and confusion of the traffic and all the opportunities it gives me to smile and be a courteous “local.” Thank goodness I have few obligations and can relax and enjoy the resort town I fell in love with. Bring on the tourists!!!
I don’t understand your negativity about the influx of dollars into your community during the holidays. You might want to consider the role non-residents pay in supporting your infrastructure. For instance, paying for a full year of utilities, such as water, and electricity and property tax while only being able to utilize the services for 3 months out of 12.
After last years experience with Memorial Day weekend, we decided to give it a pass until we live there Ricki! : )So we’ll be two less lol.
Funny! Are we all ready for our giant influx of tourists? I stocked up on groceries today so I could hibernate for the weekend
