Police Officer to be added?
First, at a study session, City Council and Mayor Garland French will brainstorm how to fund a Police Officer and/or Code Enforcement Officer. Then, at Monday night’s City Council meeting, they will vote on whether to actually add the staff.

The officer was at the meeting last night. It was one that was laid off.
abiz, right on there.
Entertained….ever thought of those officers who have been laid off by the city…not by choice…are they sub-standard officers who can’t find jobs anywhere else? Just curious to know since it appears you happen to be so direcly involved…
Even if they plan to hire another police officer, where are they going to find one that is willing to join the department? Considering the budget issues that are on-going, I can’t imagine any quality officer wanting to put their time and efforts into the City here! More than likely, the only police officer they will find will be someone who is sub-standard, and can’t find a job anywhere else! Great….
multi-tasking is accomplished only if those involved are of a mind to do so. i would think it should already have been done. the code enforcement officer that used to drive around to check out a multitude of complaints did not get the job done. i agree with CACrime about sending a police officer to give lawful orders to violators. my previous reply is an example of just how ineffective the code enforcer and the city council/city manager/mayor have been in the past. apparently the mentioned address has been cited a multitude of times over the past 4 yrs without anything being accomplished. i ask all of you to drive past the address on park ave ne and take a look. i am grateful that i live far enough away to not have to see that mess when i step out my front door.
it seems like we have this very large bucket of”spare” money. the money is tossed up into the air and each department needing some grabs at what they need. always comming up short.maybe departments should be allowed to pick their needs from the bucket, if they can prove,up front, that they know how to apply the money in a manner to benefit ocean shores and not their egos. who is more important than who seems to be the big question. and of course all hands go up and the sounds of “me,me,me” can be heard all around town.
enough bull, city council. get your act(s) together and do something right……anything, please.just one thing will do, for now.
Maybe we should stop the furlough days first. Then think about hiring more people. Each department is trying to get at the money. All say they are important to the city.
Maybe our Building Inspector could act as the Code Inspector. Maybe one of the Police Officers could work as the Animal Control Officers. We used to have it that way. Cross training and multifunctional employees should be the norm now. We do not always need a code enforcement officer. We do not always need a police officer. Maybe we should have someone that does both tasks. People respect a police officer more than a code enforcement officer. Maybe then we would get a reaction from the violators if they knew they were violating a lawful order of a police officer

It means the city is finally thinking straight for once. Not too mention, the EMS Levy sure was a godsend..
Does this mean that the Mayor won the LOTTO?
