More on the resignation
Chief Mike Styner made it clear last night he was only pledging to handle the administrative role of mayoral functions until the next council meeting (Feb. 22). Garland French, the “mayor pro tem,” will be handling the duties of setting the agenda. Some council members were eager to meet next week, but Peggy Berry said she has a planned vacation that week, and wants to be part of the decision-making process on appointing a mayor.

just use their first initial, last name, then @osgov.com if they are on city email.
I looked at my previous response and apparently Tom’s blog won’t re-print e-mail addresses. Sorry for any confusion.
Am I to understand correctly the the public safety director is now giving ultimatums to the city council? I was under the impression that this was part of his job responsibilities when he took office, and now he is now saying that the council has to hurry up and select a new mayor according to his schedule? What’s he going to do if they don’t comply, quit? If that’s the case, maybe we also ought to be looking for a new public safety director. The last thing council should be doing is rushing this selection process. They ought to take their time and interview for the correct administrator, preferably someone not from this community that is willing to transfer and doesn’t have the ties here that would compel him to make some of the wrong decisions. Sam maybe has the right idea, but we ought to, as involved citizens, be giving our opinions to council and not to just this blog. Here are their addresses:
“Bob Crumpacker” , “dave creighton” , “Garland French” , “John and Jackie Farra” , “john lynn” , “Peggy Berry” , “Richard Skewis” ,
Please, Please, Please Council go to ICMA (internation City Manager’s Association) and get a professional to do the Admin work, one who has Finance Experience to take over the Admin day to day for the resigning Mayor… he may find a way that the Mayor (who only had experience from the Navy) to make things work or REALLY find out where we are at. Don’t put a Chief of Police in that postion to fail again…. PLEASE! Oh, yea, but regardless of what we do, let’s save the Weatherwax……
Joan, Thank you for the thought, but I think the council would prefer to tar and feather me before they would make me mayor, with the way I helped them out with the lid lift. A member of the council is still calling me a liar two months after the election. Some people just can’t accept that they lost, gracefully, so I won’t be standing by, waiting for the phone to ring.
I’d like to nominate Al Lizakowski.
One would think that in a crisis such as this that someone would take that vacation time to help this city that they have pledged to do all they can for. Oh gee, shall I go on vacation or help the city that I profess to love?
Mike Styner has no choice in the matter by ordinance power passes from the Mayor to Police Chief, before it was from City Administrator to Police Chief, I hope personnally they take their time, take nominations from citizens and vet each candidate and do it in public for real not another back room deal of the varrity that has been used so often in the past!
