Lady Hyaks roll up another win
Brett Mackey’s North Beach High girls basketball team delivers a road win, rolling up to an 11-2 start. The boys basketballers are at home tonight, against Willapa Valley.
Hyaks 62, Vikings 38
MENLO — Both North Beach and Willapa Valley experienced a roller-coaster first half, but the Hyaks were the only ones to keep their intensity up in this Pacific League matchup.
Up by seven at halftime, North Beach doubled up host Valley, 34-17, in the second half.
“They kept their intensity and came out aggressive,” Vikings coach Melissa Aust said, “and we flattened out. We couldn’t find it on offense. They were 6-for-6 from behind the 3-point line, which means we weren’t flying out to the shooter on defense.”
Andrea Smaciarz earned Coach Aust’s praise with a team-high 18 points and Michaela Huber pulled in 11 rebounds with her six points for Valley (0-6, 7-7).
Iyra Bastian led North Beach (5-1, 11-2) with 18 points and Tahnee McCrory added 16.
On Monday, Valley travels to Wishkah for a non-league game. On Friday, North Beach hosts South Bend.
