Voicemail re $330,000 LID study
“This is … (local woman) I thank you for putting it on the front page about the $330,000 breakdown. I am outraged! I hope that the city put it out to bid. I found it outrageous that Charles Macaulay gets $250 per hour which is more than a surgeon. makes . . . How can someone make more in an hour than a poor widow makes in a month?”

What is being studied? What are they trying to find out?
“It is narrow minded to think that all of the billed hour monies goes directly into the pockets of the people doing the work.”
It doesn’t make any difference who’s pocket it’s going into.
What matters is who’s pocket it’s coming out of.
The important question is to ask why is this rocket science?
What skills and education are so rare that we must pay these huge costs?
What is the detailed process involved that needs so much of our road L.I.D.money under the threat of a property lien.
Why can’t this be explained so all can understand especially council who never investigate these things. They just vote for these huge un-understandable expenditures because it was in the budget or some employee simply says it has to be done.
Citizens should not be voting on any new taxes or be supporting any new utility fees until they are guaranteed they won’t be squandered by a clueless council, rapacious vendors or uncaring employees.
It is up to the voters to close the spigots or this will never end.
This is just another example of the boondoggle that has plagued our city for years. Lanfear in public works continually contracts work to his favorites without issuing an RFP. As some examples, look at the airport engineering, the roundabout engineering and this award. How would you bid for work if you knew in advance you were the only bidder? It appears that the only way you will get rid of this cronyism is to get rid of the source.
these studies are insane. No wonder they don’t have any money.
My real concern is the lodging for the Benenfit/Assessment team.
SOMETIMES there is a lodging benefit with these contracts.
You can’t expect these folks to live in a travel trailer in an RV
park-you must provide computers and phones, and paper, etc.
With five people to be lodged-would that mean five hotel rooms?
I don’t know much about the internet, so perhaps my son will help
me find the contract with the City.
If lodging is part of the deal, then the city is out five rooms
times 30-31 days per month times ?? of months! You think we are
strapped now? You are talking thousands!
Meantime, interest on the LID accumulates every month!

I have seen no justification for the city regarding the need for this study. I can think of one that might be acceptable to the citizens–that they are gathering evidence for a lawsuit against the contractors for substandard work.
why not have the city look things over instead of paying through the snout? as citizens we should have some(a large) input about the project. look at the corner on park ave ne and cardinal and tell me if that is quality work. i say it stinks and you don’t have to pay me a dime…………or you can if you want.
Its important to note that the $250 an hour is not what that individual person ‘Makes’, ie, not all of that goes to salary & benefits. Part of that is to pay for the office they work in, lights, computers, & other overhead costs associated with doing business. While I do agree that the $330k to do a study to see if the streets we paid for were worth it, It is narrow minded to think that all of the billed hour monies goes directly into the pockets of the people doing the work.
