The Four-Way Stop is Dead!
For decades, four Stop signs bravely stood guard, silent sentries at the corner of Chance a la Mer and Pt. Brown avenues. They withstood 100 mph winds, speeding tourists, lumbering big rigs and howling city managers, all determined, but unable, to undermine their authority and bring them down.
Now, they are gone. These signs of our past have Yielded to the future.
Long live the Roundabout!

I just hope someones “mistake” doesn’t cause an injury or worse! Don’t want my glass half full of blood! May this be the Christmas during which you take the willing decision to endeavour to help all sentient beings, regardless.
Wow there sure are some negative feelings out there. Looking at the glass half full I feel Shores is doing well for what they have to work with. Positive thinking, corrective action done with a long term goal in mind and fix your mistakes along the way with a helpful attitude will go along way. Merry Christmas
“Well designed” my foot, my latest adventure: Driving west on Chance ala Mer through the roundabout heading for IGA, so that puts you in the left lane as you are directed to do as you enter the roundabout to go to the airport (go figure), as the two lanes on the east side of the roundabout merge very quickly if you are wanting to turn right into IGA you can only hope that the driver coming in the right lane off of Pt. Brown from the south sees you and yields or you see him/her and sit and wait. If they are coming at 15 MPH off Pt. Brown they are there in a heart beat – which was what my and my wife’s heart was doing as we both came to a stop to determine who should go where. He decided that I had better get out of the merge and let me proceed, he then turned right as well. Had there been another car coming in either lane who knows what would have happened. I don’t know who approved this design but it is an accident waiting to happen. Fortunately I won’t be first.
I want to personally thank the City for it’s vision. This “ROUNDABOUT” is the first sign of fresh air I have seen in a long time for Ocean Shores. It was creative, well designed and installed with very little issues considering the size of the job. Congratulations to the team for a JOB WELL DONE.
Does that mean we’re a bunch of deadheads?
Unless they paved the second part, there was only half paved to date. It is futher to the east. There is a square concrete box and then the concrete curb drops again for the second part.
Looked today for “second half” of IGA driveway – it is what it is – finished. Yes, I think we’ll see a transmission or two and a few rear ends – they certainly will not be able to check out any RV repair manuals at our Library!
No, just the hulk of a large motorhome across the median with it’s transmission torn out as a warning. Sort of like ships on the rocks.
“Right, Right, Right” – will there be a huge sign posted addressing that for big rigs?
Remember, Right, Right Right. Right onto Chance. Right onto Dolphin. Right onto MK Lewis. Right on Point Brown. Right onto the roundabout and then your first left as you travel around the roundabout straight onto Chance to the beach. That is doing it right when you have a large vehicle.
I will look for that “second half of the driveway”. Okay, so your visiting Ocean Shores and you stop for milk (or beer) and you kids are yelling that they want to go see the beach – you can’t get your rig left so you go right – kids yell again “we don’t want to go to the Post Office”. You turn left again down Rain Street and then your kids yell again “we don’t want to go to the Airport”. You keep going and spot the Interpretive Center and say, “oh boy something for the kids to do while I get some directions.” The kids start yelling again!!!
IGA will get better when they finish the sidewalk and second half of the driveway. There is also the alternative of going right and around the block for big vehicles. That is what we trained our drivers to do when in company vehicles. We always told them to go right because there was a significant reduction in accidents.
By the way, just was told that the sidewalk in front of the Subway and First Cabin was not done because of General Fund shortages and matching issues. If they get the money in the future, they will replace that too.
the magic word to get something done in OS seems to be “grant”
Why is it so easy to acquire the solutions of non-existent past problems like the roundabout and so difficult to solve current ones like having a library for decades and then having none?
Millions for one and none for the other. There is something wrong in this city.
Tempting, Phil, but not gonna go there! (It’s funny in theory, til somebody gets hurt. . . )
Hey! Maybe the town will make some money by issuing citations to whoever was at fault in each accident. I see the method to the madness now! Genius!
Tom you should start a poll. Time till first accident, & how many accidents in the first year.
Yeah, I found the parking lot access a little …uhm, well I can’t really find a good word for it. And I’m FAN of the round about, so I can imagine how those who hated the thing from the beginning will feel.
That is all fine and well, but I just got done trying to turn left coming out of the IGA access and in my pick up I just made it if I swung really wide coming out – with a small trailer or RV – NO WAY – and then you have the very quick merge coming east at the IGA entrance – an accident waiting to happen!
All I have to say is”they tore it down and put in a parking lot”
