I have temporarily “hidden” (not deleted) all comments, regarding Ken Mercer, after hearing a report that a city employee had contacted someone who posted a comment. -T.S.

Hmmm …. too bad. City employees are paid by the citizens of OS through the taxes paid – so in the end – ALL city employees work for the citizens. If a citizen has a question about the performance of any employee it is a valid question. If the city employee does not like the question – too bad, they are still accountable for their performance or lack of performance in their job. It is time to buckle down ad deal with the budget shortfalls – and city employee that cops an attitude about being questioned about their job – should be shown the fastest route out of town. There are many qualified people looking for work these days, that just might possibly not only perform Mr. Mercer and others jobs – but do them better at a cost the city can afford.
Consider who this blog has been talking about and you will have your city employee.
I thought investigative journalism was the reason we have newspapers. If we wanted warm and fuzzy tourism or real estate brochures, we would have the convention center or real estate firms publish them. Oh, they do!!! The NCN give a broad mix of stories that reflect both the issues facing our city and what is available for the residents. Tourist read the tourist stuff. We read the newspaper. As Sgt. Friday said, Just the facts ma’am. We love how he takes the facts and sees where they flow to. Sometimes it is not pretty. That is a fact that Ocean Shores has to live with. That is a fact that City Government needs to get used to too. Look at the cartoons that are published. They are done so to get people to think. Is that really awful?
I think it is time to get on with our lives. This was only an insignificant bleep. The NCN is an excellent little paper with an excellent Editor. The fact that it causes people to resort to childish behavior means they are all reading it !
I’d like to know the city employee’s name. Obviously he would rather work some place else. Ocean Shores citizens want to have all our employees and government to be held responsible and accountable for their actions. They seem to have forgotten just who they work for and who pays their salaries! The times they are changing and there are a bunch of disgruntled people out here. The closing of the library and interpretive center are the straws that broke the camels back!
Obviously this city employee has issues…Instead of calling “the commenters” maybe try therapy!

Another really, really good reason not to require people to post using their real names.
