I am a 10th grader at the high school I have not ever seen any wear close to 100 books go to the library. Also regarding our computer system we have one lab off to the library with about 30 computers then we have one computer lab with barely running computers there is about 15 with a class on a full day 16 plus the detention kids the class room is a detention room also. Next I do not see how we have a library in our school I just don’t I call it the Mr. Reed’s room or Mr. Wiley’s class room.

I know how hard are school is trying for us but we have no books and no library well we do have books just not new ones and a library but no person running it and it acts more as a class room.
Just some information I just got from the source, Stan Pinnick. The school district does have libraries in each of the schools. They buy about 100 books a year for them. The books are not the classroom books. Those are kept separate. There are computer labs in all the schools. There are three in the High School and 1 in each of the elementary schools. They are available during school time only. 8-3 only. There is no Certified Media Specialist at any of the libraries. They use the local library at the school for library use and research methods as part of the student curriculum. They are planning for the future by doing it themselves. They plan to upgrade their media. They are looking for grants to do this and offer after school services and funds to extend the school day and school year.
This year… On your own for students. Individual study or special needs allow for the checking out of some computers.
Are they planning a technology drive, yes. They plan to make a public request in the amount of 6 cents per thousand. 100K to implement per year. Upon review of the county assessor valuation records, this would mean that Ocean Shores would pay about $81,717.62 and the rest of the district would pay $23,785.53. I don’t know the ratio of students attending the school district Ocean Shores vs. County, but that should be investigated.
While I fully support our Fire and Police Departments, I also have to ask “How much is too much?”
It appears to me that the people, through their vote, stated that they felt the amount being asked for the EMS was “too much”. Somehow the city administration translated that into “They don’t want a library/interpretive center.”
For those that feel there is no such thing as “too much” when it comes to fire and police, why don’t we have a helicopter so we can medevac patients to the hospital and do away with the need for so many ambulances being used for the run to Aberdeen. The police could also use it for patrol and “eye in the sky” to keep us even safer. Yes, it would be costly, but then there’s no such thing as “too much” when it comes to Fire/EMS/Police.
In these times of tight budgets we all need to cut back ,but to be fair to all, the cutbacks need to be applied evenly across the board. If we find we have cut back too far in some area, we can always add back until we reach a reasonable balance.
Think of it as your home, when times get tough do you cut back on expensive meals, turn the heat down a couple of degrees, drive less, etc. or do you just shut of the heat and keep everything else the same?
Oh, and closing the library is a bad idea.
This goes beyond the fact of who’s a Police Officer, and who’s not. Behind the badge, behind the uniform, Police Men/Women are human. They are people with families and friends. Being a Police Officer is not a requirement, it’s a choice. Brave men and women dress themselves in battle armor every day fighting a war to keep our communities safe. They patrol the streets while you work, and while you sleep, exhausting themselves to protect the cities they live in and the communities they care so deeply about.
It is disheartening to read some of the comments people have posted about Police Officers. Some people view the profession as a joke. Yes, Officers deal with a variety of calls, everything from “weird noises,” to critical incidents. It’s all part of the job. To a passing by citizen who sees an Officer locking a door, or shinning their lights on a business after hours, the job might seem boring or useless, but it is far from that. Police Officers exist to be the light when darkness shows its face. They are there 24/7 365 days out of the year willing to lay down their lives to protect that of another. Police Officers react when others are afraid, and they reach in to take the hand of the afraid and lift them to safety, all with little thanks. It is a thankless job, but one where Officers are not looking for thanks, or respect, after all it is what they chose to do. Being protectors of our communities is their choice, and a noble one.
Lately, with all that has been happening state-wide, it is hard to think that one can not take the time to look beyond the badge and find thanks in what these brave men and women do on a daily basis. If you ask any Police Office why they chose their profession, 99.9% of them will answer “to help people.” Making a difference is not always easy to do, but these brave men and women give it their all each day trying to do so. They are roll models, mentors, and public figures for your kids. They are the ones who put their lives on the line driving as fast as they can toward you when you’re in trouble. They submerge themselves in rough waters to pull a lost soul in from safety when they need a helping hand. They respond to situations when cowardly individuals attempt to harm your family and friends, and they do all of that laying their own lives on the line without giving their personal safety a second thought.
I’d say in recent days, it’s time to give back to our Officers. They are wearing those black bands across their badges for a reason. An Officers job is not always easy, and not always safe. Lately, it has been less safe than normal. The amount of stress these individuals go through, the time spent away from their families, the long hours, it’s all worth more than thanks in my opinion … it’s worth a little bit of respect as well wouldn’t you think?
I always ask my self before ever questioning the job of a Police Officer, if they didn’t do their jobs, who would? These men and women are heroes. They are paid not for what their shifts consist of, but for what could happen during their shift, the ultimate risk. And you better believe each and every Officer in this town would fight until the end if it meant saving each and every citizen of this city.
Today, I say thank you to the brave Officers of Ocean Shores. Thank you for all that you do, and know that amidst all of these comments there are people out there who would shake your hands and offer you a simple “thank you,” something you don’t hear enough.
I’m still voting this thread be closed, permanently.
And I thought the topic was the library! Maybe it is time for the discussion to return to solutions to that issue. Until some people decided to pull it towards bantering about who loves police and fire more or hates them more we were looking for ways to solve the library staffing problem. Now I did use an example of an EMS program that used Students, but it was to show that they were responsible enough to pull that program off, why not a library program? That was my point. Give these kids some respect too. When they want something bad enough, they perform. SO, let’s get back to finding sources of supervision, direction, training, and other resources to keep the library open for those that use it. Thank you.
Second. Mr. Ray was talking me in circles. I got confused. He said the PD should have volunteers like the FD, I pointed out that they did, but that the FD volunteers got paid, he said that the PD volunteers were free (I thought I said that)…. They ARE required to put in time, unpaid (repeat REQUIRED and UNPAID) to keep their “status”. So does Mr. Ray have a list of those people who are willing to volunteer for required and unpaid time, for little or no cost to the city? Didn’t think so, only dedicated individuals would show up for that kind of duty and wear a target on their head. Pretty hefty responsibility for someone to take on for a community that for the most part has little to no value for their police protection. I wouldn’t do it, not because I’m against working for free in a very difficult job to serve my community, but because I have no desire to give my time for a community who has zero value for that sort of commitment and sacrifice. And shame on you! Shame on all of you. Oh, and the other reason I couldn’t do it is because if I showed up at your house in an emergency, I wouldn’t have the ability to show the professionalism our police department shows because I couldn’t care less about helping someone who hates police the way some of you do. Good thing they hired professionals and don’t need to depend on volunteers like me!
second
I vote that this topic thread be closed. Any seconds?
Mrs B
I would never say to put in volunteers to replace our current officers. Only to add to their numbers. If you have two patrols on a given night then they could have a reservist riding with each one of them. Four is better than two. Just as the fire dept has “volunteers” who are supervised under acting fireman. Unless i’m wrong explorers and reservists for police depts are completely unpaid. They were required to put in a certain amount of hours per month to keep their reservist status…..but this for now is about the library, sorry to get off topic.
What a joke everyone is making of this! If you want to be naive towards the reality of society, and what people actually do for this city, than this is not the place for you. Let’s face it, someone who has not seen what the police actually do here has no reason to atack them in an attempt to fulfill their own senseless agenda. Same for the fire department, everyone who is making assumptions are clueless to what they really do. If you think that the solution is to let go firemen and police so that there is not adequate coverage for the sake of money, than that fact in itself is not only dangerous but an absolute shame. I don’t know what some of your problems are with them, but at least have the common decency to respect that thay re doing what very few people do, and they do it to help the community.
They do have reservists, [names deleted]
But they don’t patrol alone or take the place of a paid officer, just as the volunteer fire dept do not (and I think fire dept volunteers are paid, just on a smaller scale). They are an asset to our force, but at the fine pay rate of “free” they probably can’t afford to be here all the time. But why don’t we take this moment to thank them for their dedication and time, not to mention how they also risk their lives every time time they put on a uniform to protect this city? Go ahead, everyone, thank them for donating their time.
If the Fire dept gets to have volunteers why can’t the Police? Departments all over the country have explorer programs or reservists, why not here? We could easily double our dept. with very little costs, just time. Some departments don’t send their new hires to the academy until after a year of service.
All I can say is “Walk a mile in their shoes”.
It saddens me to think that someone who probably got a speeding ticket (because they were speeding) or got a DWI (because they were driving drunk) and consequently hates the cops could be so vocal and unchallenged (with the exception of TigerLilly – Thanks!).
You folks should consider what it would feel like to put on a cop’s uniform and go next door when your neighbors are screaming at each other. I doubt many of you would actually have the courage to do it and even if you did I bet your spouse would try to talk you out of it.
I listen to a scanner at home and just last night I heard our guys trying to handle two domestic violence reports and a suspicious person near Macdonalds – ALL AT THE SAME TIME!
From what I heard, there were only two cops working last night (as is the norm) and they managed to catch and arrest some guy who beat his wife and took off with their baby AND take care of everything else too. You can get a lot of information from a scanner if you just listen.
It is very true that this kind of think doesn’t happen every night and we do ask our cops to handle crap calls like wildlife problems and stupid neighborhood “Hatfield and McCoy” problems. We also ask them to keep us safe, sometimes that may include keeping stupid people from climbing on jetty rocks during a storm or parking beside the road running radar to catch the speeders you complain about. I do know they handle over 9,000 calls each year (over 24 calls a day average) and some days they don’t get any calls. (check the daily log at the front desk to see the numbers)
The bottom line is when we need them, they come running! When shots are fired or people are trying to hurt each other, they run into the fray, not away from it. Not many of us (including me!) would care to do what they do. I’m sure it would scare my wife to death if I even considered it. Don’t worry honey, I won’t paint a target on my chest and walk into a group of angry cop haters like our cops do every time they put on their uniforms.
For those of you who don’t catch my drift – many of YOU are the angry cop haters I mentioned above! Each and every one of you will call the cops when things go bad and then all you can complain about is how long it took them to get there.
You people make me sick to my stomach. I feel sorry for your children. I happen to appreciate and admire our people in blue. Just like our fire department, when I have needed them they have always been there for me and my family.
Our cops have already been bashed by the mayor and city council, now you folks are joining in. They lost three people in the last layoff and now they are down half a chief.
Ease off a bit and start pointing the finger at those who caused this proble we are in. Our city “fathers”. Maybe if more of you voted this wouldn’t have happened.
Relax, just lowered the speed limits on some roads for you all. Now the berry pickers are safe.
The deer have invaded us because mama deer told them to, and it is almost Christmas. Papa deer has to pull the sleigh.
Local animals polled say they want more flea powder and fish species, deer and bear are happy.
maybe the spelling king of ocean shores should be running the library. i thought spelling was taught in school classrooms and at home by moms. not librarians. please excuse any errors you may find mr spelling bee king.
There was a horrible tragedy that devastated the law enforcement community just a few days ago. Would it be too much for you to put your police bashing on hold for just a few days out of respect for the slain officers and their friends and family in law enforcement? This is just tasteless – some of us value police officers and the fact that they put their lives on the line for us, and this is a slap in the face.
BTW, the person who needs the library the most is the person who put in the heading and misspelled “temporarily”.
Don’t forget to mention that the high winds keep knocking over garbage cans and people are consistently trying to steal rocks from the jetty. I’m sure that our detective and all his supervisors are thoroughly investigating these crimes of and against nature. We also need more jetty patrols.
we’re fearful because crime runs rampant. gang violence is at an all time high, break-ins have sky rocketed, and deer have taken over all the roadways as well as many yards. wild dog packs are seen devouring many types of native wildlife and walkers were seen picking blackberries. we have a big law enforcement problem here in ocean shores.
Where is the real “fat” in the budget? Has anyone looked at the staffing of the police force, and the gluttony of supervisors versus officers? Why is everyone in the city administration so fearful of reducing the staffing of this department?
I know I will get attacked, but did anyone see the article about EMS Service – Post 53 in Darien CT? http://www.post53.org/ It may also be an idea for here. Quality Education. So, I guess the library would be a cake walk when you consider what these kids can do. By the way, you only have to be 15 in CT to be an EMT.
We will have to forgo professionals if we want anything at all. That has been telegraphed to us very clearly. Payroll is the major expense for both the library and interpretive center. All the other costs are significantly less. We saw that books can be bought by citizens and donated. That may be the way we keep it current for a while. We are not going to get what we had. The librarian is gone Dec. 31st. They have no intention of hiring another one. The law may say you need one, but there is no enforcement mechanism. We can not go back to what we had. We have to adapt. What can we do with the resources we have? That needs to be the focus. What do we have? Seniors, Parents, Students, a building and the existing materials and systems.
why should they with all the comic relief and reading they get from posts here.
I have a feeling that the mayor and city council don’t use the library either!
gee whiz, i thought teachers were professionals.
Nicely stated, Troubled.
I am very interested that so many seem to think that the library could be run with school kids or volunteers. What is it about the library that makes people think this? Is it that we see the staff working and they make it look easy? We do have volunteer firemen and EMS. I’m not sure what they do, but I’m sure they do it after a lot of training and under the supervision of professionals. Maybe we should ask school kids and volunteers to run the finance department or public works. Do we really think that could be done without at least the supervision of professionals. Do we respect the fact that the least experienced person in the library has 10 years working there?
It seems that unfortunately, bantering about our ideas on here (as good as they are), won’t really change what is happening. From what I understand, the mayor either A)doesn’t care or B) cares but doesn’t see an alternative. Seems we need someone higher up to pay attention.
What about a good old fashioned (peaceful of course) protest in front of city hall. How many people would come out for that. If we had a good showing we could get the television news crews out there and maybe then there would be some action?
I just see us spinning our wheels and chasing our tails because ultimately, isn’t it the mayor and city council who decide?
it wouldn’t be as much of a “volunteer” situation as it would be a class offered by the school and monitored by the same teachers who supervise the kids in school. just an extended classroom with actual real life training. duh what twubble, silly wabbit?
I think they need to lay off some fire fighters and keep the paramedics what we get one fire a week or month here in shores and why are we paying taxes for when they go out to Pacific Beach and respond to the high school when that is county territory the county should help us pay for the new fire station and firemen and police. Plus we do not need nearly as much fire fighters and the mayor gets paid 10k less then Sarah Pailn was making as Alaskans Governor she only made about 100k.
Your probably right, however they would be staffing it not running it.
Legally I doubt the city would allow underage volunteers to run the library entirely.
If anything happened to users we could be in big twubble folks.
Instead maybe the council should raise taxes on hotel rooms to pay for the visitor center and library since many visitors use them as well.
We pay for the roads, police and EMS that visitors use, so visitors can pay for a few things to help out like the library and visitor center.
That seems fair.
What about the golf course? All that available land that few people actually use! I’m sure more use the library than the course, maybe it’s time to look at selling it to a private investor to do with it what they wish…
Let the Friend of the Library lease the building and contents from the city and make it a community library and charge a fee for libary cards. The idea of using volanteer students should be considered. Maybe the schools should make a finacial contribution if it is in place of a school library. Since it would not be a city operation, the union should have nothing to say about it.
I think the best idea and most logical one is the students. Logistics of transportation to and from school would have to be worked out by staff or a “volunteer” who would have to go through a background check much like a chaperone would for a field trip. This would also apply for anyone willing to volunteer to supervise for the day if a staff member was unable to. If push came to shove then start charging for library cards or usage. Maybe the community club could be approached. They require no votes other than the board of directors to raise dues (which would i’m sure anger alot of people), or they could have a vote of property owners to take it over, yet it could still be staffed by students. Desperate times call for desperate measures. The library is too valuable to alot of people to simply close it down on what in my opinion is a whim.
I am a local student that goes to North Beach High School our district is doing everything they can to give us a great future and successful life. We do have a room that is called a Library and we do have a computer lab. Our library books are very little selection on books and very out dated books also we do not use it as a library we use it as a class room. Next in the Commons or cafeteria of the school the brick walls are leaking and a part of the roof is to. Know to the computer labs we have 1 that has 25 or 30 computers and up stairs in the Apex room we have a room full of old computers i would guess 2000’s maybe earlier there is like 10 in there and some others around the school but we do not have a really great or nice system in our school. that is why we need the library great technology and great access to books which as students we need the Ocean Shores Library really badly because kids from P.B. come hear to to read or check out books.
Volunteers running the library is a great idea!
If we can get sufficient capable volunteers that will commit long term. (Not “Oh, I can’t make it on Tuesday, I’ve got to go shopping”, etc.)
AND
If the union doesn’t file an “Unfair Labor Practice” suit because we are replacing a union position with a volunteer.
After all, their current contract is inforce until 2013.
here is a chance for the high school students to excel. on a volunteer basis they could “man” the library. let’s call it something silly like study hall. teachers with “off”(during school hours) time are assigned to supervise the “study hall”. the students would get credit for running the library, and do some community service at the same time. it would look good on a resume or a college application. in addition, boy and girl scouts would get credit toward merit badges. common folks, its thinking cap time.our only library is too much of a loss when it is so important to so many.
Very well said, Birddog!
If someone says “the town”, they mean the town. If they say “North Beach” that means the North Beach. They are two distinct entities. A person who says Ocean Shores kids at the high school forgets that others from outside Ocean Shores are accessing this resource.
The fact that the school district is not providing the service of a quality library for their students is important here. I think they have been entrusted with the duty to teach students their subjects, which probably includes doing research on various topics. If they don’t provide the resource, someone else has to. That means that the solution has to come from the WHOLE North Beach. It is not just Ocean Shores’ problem. It is the WHOLE North Beach’s problem.
No one said pay that teacher. They are already being paid. It is their students that have the assignments. If need be, they leave the classroom and attend class at the library. Some creative solution is needed.
Yes, we could make it with volunteers, but many of the current volunteers are disgusted about the situation and are considering abandoning the library completely. This would be a great loss to the community. However, I can understand their frustration.
If the school district has computer resources, as stated by RealFansWearRed, then they need to make them available beyond normal school hours to fulfill student’s needs.
As to breathing room, what are we holding our breaths for? A EMS Utility which will again free up General Fund money for what? Will that be a temporary utility? What will it be tied to? Will it solve the issue of who pays for services provided by a city vs. those provided by a county? Will be just be applying a bandaid to a festering budget problem?
Timberland is another group of politicians. However, their only goal is providing library services. We have to decide if we want a city or regional library. If it is a city library, can it be insulated from the General Fund by making it a separate levy? Would citizens pass a Lid Lift for the library? Would that protect it like they wanted to protect the EMS funds? Maybe a more straight forward levy proposal would work. Maybe we need to pigeon hole our funding to protect programs and departments. Will we end up with only Police, Fire and EMS and no other city functions as time progresses?
I hope everyone has been able to study this latest recommended budget. Right off the top I wonder why hasn’t the airport been shut down? An airport is more important than a library?
I seem to remember a time when NBHS had a very limited library. There was hardly a place for the kids to sit, few books, and no computers. This was pre-1997. That summer, a NBHS student passed away in an automobile accident. That student had been working diligently, due to her love for reading, on improving the library at the school. After her death, funds were used to keep that improvement going. A computer was even purchased which had software enabling students to have video chats furthering their education. The computer, if I remember right, was quite expensive. This student collected donations of both books, furniture, and furnishing to improve the schools library. That computer, shortly after it was up and running, was taken apart and not even used. The books are still there, and that room is now furnished enabling students to be comfortable in its environment. There is even a computer room now, with enough computers for students to work on homework. As far as I know, that portion (the computer room) is still being used. However, I find it appalling that the library is not even functioning enough for students to check out books and return them. That is a matter that must be addressed by parents and students with the school. I know the room is used to house one staff member, why couldn’t that staff member be trained enough to simply check books in and out while in the room, it takes all of 30 seconds to complete those tasks and would likely not take much out of their day. Again, this needs to be addressed with the school. If that isn’t going to happen however, the OS Library is the only resource for kids who do not have access to other libraries or internet at home. That is a vital resource, for their furthering education. They can research, complete, and print assignments at the Library, as well as check out materials furthering their education … and do we really need to go into the importance of books and how they help the development process of life? I would hope that the city would explore all options before closing the library. In doing so they are taking away one of few departments in this city that promotes life and learning. Whatever the cost of our libraries, the price is cheap compared to that of an ignorant nation.
It was my understanding that part of the taxes we pay go to the library of Ocean Shores. Nothing was ever said about paying for inept city workers whose mistakes have cost a fortune, building a firehouse that is so over the top for what this community need and needless expenditures by the city.
So in other words I have paid for this library. Perhaps yet another suit against the city will bring the real story and the real cost of these blunders to light for all the public. The library is a necessity for this town.
Wow, we do like to bash in this town. Maybe if we charged .10 a word to vent we would have enough money to make up our current shortfalls.
Seriously, is any one asking what it would take to keep the library open on a reduced schedule with volunteers for the month of January? Could we do it? What about the interpretive center, could the same be done?
We must file a balanced budget by Dec 31st.
If we can support these for one month, any possiblity we could stretch it to 2 months?
That would at least give some breathing room.
We talk about ‘getting the library’ out of the hands of politicians, are we not saying we would put it in the hands of another group of politicians?
So now it’s the school district’s fault? What? Last I heard they lost a couple of teachers this year and I have not yet met the teacher that would want to put in 12 hour days five days week for free. They can barely afford what they have, so paying that teacher to “loan out” is out of the question. And what’s with the nitpicking? Tigerlilly said “this town” and you got on for two sentences about it being “North Beach” and not “Ocean Shores”.
It is not only Ocean Shores kids, it is North Beach kids. The Junior and High School serves the whole North Beach. If nothing more, they should loan a teacher from the time school closes to some time in the evening to assist students with their needs at our library. Did we hear from the School Board? Did we hear from the School Superintendent? Did our council know? More questions need to be asked. Then we have to work on solutions. The solution is money. The source is anywhere we can get it. Maybe if 5000 people call the Governor’s office, State School Superintendent, Department of Education, and Kessler and Dicks.
A new roof was put on a few years ago. The city has never paid much for maintenance. The Friends of the Library donated a chunk of money to pay for new siding and paint and volunteers take care of the landscaping and weeding. Let’s thing about how we can get the best library on a permanent basis. The FOL have their fundraisers and they are a dedicated group but can only do so much. Any more positive suggestions for keeping the Library open. How are YOU willing to help?
That is correct, there is no library at the high school. Well, there’s room called the library, but there is no librarian, no updated periodicals, and a few old and worn books on the shelves. That’s why it was so tragic for the kids in this town, some of them practically lived there. Let’s hope they don’t substitute their good clean entertainment for some good old fashioned trouble.
The 10k for utilities is good. What I wonder about is the maintenance. Just in the last few years there was around $45,000 spent on new siding, what’s next? Roof? Plumbing?
The high school doesn’t have a library? Seriously?
Wwe have to negotiate with Timberland from a point of strength. We want staff and a lower levy cost if we are serving the North Beach. We currently serve the whole North Beach and see nothing from them. If they are now paying Timberland and using us, then that difference should be applied to our library. Do not let them call this the Ocean Shores library branch. It should be the North Beach Branch and funded accordingly. If the Junior and High School do not have a library, then we should be compensated for that additional support too. The city pays for the utilities and maintenance for the building and therefore they should compensate us for the additional pressure on our facilities. The county seems to put all their burden on the cities. It is time for them to pay too.
In response to the questions deadin asked, the city has included ten thousand for utilities in the last budget that includes closing the library but will continue paying the utilities. Yes, I think it is well worth the additional ten cents per thousand to contract to Timberland. It is the only way I can see to get the library money out of the general fund as well. We need to get the library funds out of the city budget where it will be depleated every time the council overspends. I’ve had enough of the excuses.
http://www.ehow.com/how_2096901_recall-city-council-member.html
If we are talking about a levy that would dedicate the funds to the library (getting it out of the hands of the politicians),
we could manage on 22 to 25 cents per thousand keeping it at the current level of service and keeping it local. Admittedly Timberland has some nice perks, but are they worth an extra 10 cents per thousand? Realize this levy would be in addition to what we are already paying in taxes. (No refund on what we are currently paying.) The citizens wouldn’t pass a 50 cent EMS “lift”. Would they pass a 35 (or even 25) cent library levy?
Also be aware that a move to Timberland still requires the city to provide, maintain and pay the utilities of the library building. This was included in the current library budget that the city decided they couldn’t afford. Will they also raise our taxes to cover these costs?
We could throw the whole lot out right now if enough of us would sign a petition!
YES YES YES and amen to “what were they thinking”. I would definately vote for that!
If Ocean Shores continues it’s current trend of ignoring the wishes of it’s constituents hopefully they will vote the whole council out. To close the library outright without mitigating steps is really outrageous. I hope there is much more discussion on this topic.
I am still trying to figure out the logic for closing the library. It is the most used facility in town. It does not make me all warm and fuzzy for those that make the decisions. Let’s try to get it back in operation as soon as possible. Could the city form some sort of levy just for the library. I think we need to make it for 34 cents so we could contract to Timberland. That way we could have access to all the Timberland libraries and more. We could request books online or in person to be delivered in Ocean Shores from those libraries and could return them here rather than going to Aberdeen. Their software is outstanding and support system is excellent. I would only contract at this point, but the money needs to be kept isolated away from the rest of the general funds so that it isn’t robbed again. There are many more benefits, http://www.trlib.org
I sure would vote for it, how about you.
Once again this group have refused to listen to what the people of ocean shores want. We asked that salaries and personel be cut across the board so that we can keep the library. I see Ken Lanfear’s salary is still listed!
Because we refused to support their bloated ems levy we are going to be punished by losing our beloved library. I will never support any of them again!
Sigh. So this is what’s recommended? Or is this what’s happening?
what date will this be effective?
