As I understand it, the owner of the land currently being used by ACE Hardware and the IGA, and Windemere RE provided each of these businesses three color options for their buildings. Appalling that the ultimate colors chosen were the best of the three. I call on all Ocean Shores residents to, as a group, offer our services and time to repaint all three buildings as a way of helping our community put the ’shores’ back into Ocean Shores. Without too much thought, I’m sure we could all agree that a more appropriate color is out there for the picking. Although I enjoy ‘pumpkin lattes’ at this time of year, I’m not so sure these large buildings can carry off this seasonal color on a year long basis. What’s next; Christmas green?
Kudos to Ty Gideon for the ‘public entrance’ he and his group created(located by the watertower)providing our community with access to this beautiful part of our shoreline. Some property owners fronting this stretch of the beach, agressively chased you away as you were trying to cross over, what turned out to be, their vacant land to get to the beach. Now we all have access to this beautiful part of the area and appreciate, very much, what Mr. Gideon has done for the Ocean Shores community.
I question the math. When does $261,000 equal $680.000? The general fund supports all the normal functions of a city. The question should be how do we avoid the additional spending all over the city? How do we reduce the waste. How do we get a system of having people pay for what they use beyond the base cost of having the resourse available. If you need services that benefit you, then you pay for it.
And let’s thank Mayor Bunkers for another non-answer to the question regarding the EMS levy:
Question: If the levy lift for EMS does not pass in November, what is the City’s plan to replace the $261,000 of the current/expiring EMS levy?
Answer: The 2010 general fund budget will be reduced by $680,000.
I’m sorry but did I miss something? What does that mean? I think we all appreciate it when an issue is discussed that those who are representative to that issue provide the facts to help everyone get complete information so that they can make their own educated decision.
How long did it take for the mayor to come up with that answer, one that not only does not answer the question, but leaves more confusion than had originally been present? I would have to imagine that the mayor has a plan if the levy fails, I wish he would actually inform the citizens of what that plan is, instead of playing the political “no answer” game.
