“Surplus” Damon Point?
Astute Bob DeBuhr looked closely into the agenda of the Weds., Sept. 9, State Parks workshop at the Shilo (7-9 p.m.). Here’s what he found: “. . . I was just reviewing their preliminary recommendations and I see that regarding Damon Point the are recommending to ‘Terminate the interagency agreement’ and ‘Classify the property subject to the agreement as suitable for surplus.’ Think local folks might find this interesting and be urged to attend the meeting.”

Quote from the Daily World article.
Damon Point is also on the list of state parks in need of improvement. The commission wants to work with the state Department of Fish & Wildlife to improve the recovery of the Western snowy plover, a species of bird on the federal threatened species list that nests at Damon Point State Park, Hovis said. The commission also wants to address public access to the park.
The park is currently managed by the parks commission and the departments of Natural Resources and Fish & Wildlife. Hovis said the parks department may opt-out of the interagency agreement because coastal erosion has reduced areas the commission manages and forced it to remove public facilities from the park, Hovis said.
He added that he would like to open discussion with the City of Ocean Shores and the Quinault Indian Nation about placing facilities, such as portable toilets, at the park.
I read that they are looking at all the alternatives. Maybe handing over management to Ocean Shores. There was more said in the Daily World article the other day.
Does this mean the state wants to close off public access to Damon Point?
