Do construction rigs get a “free pass”?
Just followed an empty construction truck doing 50 mph on O.S. Blvd., 35 mph limit. Do these dudes get a free ticket to ride in town? (Any concerns about: kids; tourists; wild life?)
From this week’s Police Log:
Aug. 27
OS Blvd NW
“Speeding dump trucks in area. Would like them ticketed.”

SWMBO and I live on Point Brown, just south of Taurus, today, we couldn’t get out of our driveway for over 2 hours due to the paving. Later in the morning, the trucks were flying past the house at better than the posted limit.
Who hired these idiots??
Maybe some BIGGER signs that show the speed limit and some bright color around the sign to make it stand out from all the visual clutter down Point Brown. Maybe some markings on the roadway with the speed limit. The school speed limit signs need the times made larger. They do make larger signs. They are not that expensive. Look online. The best reflective signs are all DOT approved. I bet we have a supplier that charges us 3 times as much. As to labor to replace these signs, what does it take to undo two screws or bolts? Probably a crew of six.
While waiting patiently for the north bound lane on Pt Brown to move ,the SUV behind me laid on his horn. Where was I supposed to go? There were aproximatly eight cars in front of me plus the company lead car. Perhaps Mr. SUV was suffering road rage for these truly are “times that try men’s souls”. and I was the nearest car to him. I prefer to think that when road horror is over we will all be more patient compassionate people unless we kill the pavers and the diggers, sign carriers or perhaps even the folks that intiated the Ocean Shores survival course. Just kidding Dean and Ken!
Getting back to the issue….yes, something needs to be done about the speeding trucks.
There never was a speed limit over 35 in town for trucks…that hasn’t changed. These trucks seem to be oblivious to speed limits, posted load limits (saw a fully loaded double flying across the bridge on chance – why?), and the normal courtesies we have come to expect from Lakeside.
Perhaps a call each time we observe a violation would be helpful. I am particularly concerned about what will happen when school starts. Inexperienced drivers, less than attentive teenagers and speeding trucks are not a good combination.
I am with you Joan. I would like to suggest that the city do something to to notify people coming into the city about 1) the changes in speed limits and 2) roundabout/construction informtion.
See how well our new speed limits are working?
I’ve had HUGE concerns about irate drivers mad at me because I have tried to stay at or just above the speed limit. I and others I’ve talked to have been given the finger, had horns honked, fists waved at me, been passed with oncoming traffic, can see them pounding on their steering wheels, been followed so closely,I felt they were going to bump me and am getting tired of this road rage in Ocean Shores. I am NOT a slow driver but have been trying to adhere to the new speed limits even tho I feel most of them are overkill. For instance, you can drive through the main streets of Hoquiam AND Aberdeen at 30. Why are we so special that we need 25? There are long lentghs of roads with NOTHING on either side (Dolphin for one) and the speed limit is 25. Why? I’m not at all surprised that people are furious at the drivers doing the speed limit. BUT, where are the police when this behavior is happening?
They aren’t to only ones ignoring the posted speed limits. Improve the enforcement.
