“Aging in Place” event
From Ed Hoffmann, Washington Aging In Place Council, (800) 475-7400:
“Next Wednesday, the 17th of June, four local organizations will sponsor a free Aging In Place event, to advocate for seniors who want to live comfortably and safely in their own homes. The event will begin at 10 am in the Harry Thompson Lions Club building, 832 Ocean Shores, Blvd NW, in Ocean Shores, and last until 2 pm. The main portion of the event will feature five local professionals from five different industries speaking on trends, services and products specifically designed to help older homeowners.
Speakers include a member of the Olympia Master Builders Association, who
will discuss Universal Design, which is the practice of designing or
remodeling homes to improve “liveability” for the elderly or disabled, a
elder law attorney, an in-home health care provider, a financial planner and
a reverse mortgage specialist.
None of the speakers will be allowed to market or promote their own
services.
The event is being sponsored by the Washington Aging In Place Council, the
North Beach Senior Resource Center, the Ocean Shores Lions Club and the Good
Neighbors Senior Center.
The event is a precursor to next year’s “Seniors At The Shore” event, a
four-day convention dedicated to seniors’ issues.
SATS organizer Cindy Stearns of Ocean Shores intends for the event to become
an fixture in Ocean Shores, and bring thousands of Washington’s increasing
senior population annually to Grays Harbor County, and helping stimulate the
local economy.
