Feb 11.1989
*The City of Ocean Shores as well as the county is in the formulative stages of a beach driving closure plan.While few seem to be in favor of total beach closure most believe that the partial plan can be beneficial with the catch phrase being “if handled properly”.
* A smooth cooperation between Public Works and the Fire Department and volunteer citizens kept a messy situation under control. Throughout Ocean Shores freezing temperatures and the subsequent thaw revealed broken water pipes demanding immediate attention. In just a four day period, water to 223 buildings had to be shut off due to broken pipes. The huge amount of water pumping through the system caused concern as storage levels began to drop.By Mon the 6th the amount of water in the tanks had dropped by almost 70%. Due to swift action controlling leaks, possible water shortages were headed off when storage tanks started gaining water by Tuesday morning
*Ocean Shores will soon be the proud owner of a second mural by artist Dennis Hermey titled “Sighting of the Lone Tree” The mural is a dramatic representation of Captain Cook and his crew on the deck of the Lady Washington”.

*The fifth annual” Taste of the North Beach” is coming to the Ocean Shores Convention Center this weekend On Saturday Feb 13th area restaurants will once again bring their sumptuous fares to the Center’s booths to the culinary delight of the public.
*Issues like erosion and development pressures in Ocean Shores have focused attention on the city’s outdated policies and regulations that manage our shoreline. The city’s Community Development Department, which oversees planning and zoning, is working to update Ocean Shores Master Plan, and the public will have opportunities to comment on this major rewrite in the coming months.
*Dave Beatty of the Gray’s Harbor Audubon Society reported that Kathleen Wolgemuth spotted a rare Bar tailed Godwit in Bill’s Spit in November. Beatty said this bird has been located in several areas of the outer coast this fall, It is always a good find.

The local North Beach School district levy is passing with more than 63% of voters approving the measure. School levies require at least 60% majority to pass.
Local area churches will sponsor a community wide Seder Passover Meal led by “Jews for Jesus” on March 31st at the Ocean Shores Convention Center.
Volunteers, city staff and local elected officials gathered last week for the ground breaking of a new community radio station for Ocean Shores
