OSE on President Obama
Schools around the area tuned gave students a chance to witness history, by tuning in to TV coverage of the inauguration. Some Ocean Shores Elementary School second grade students (Mrs. Moore’s class) weigh in, on our new President’s ceremony:
“It was cool because he was elected our new president.” Mykenzee
“It is exciting to have a new president and see what changes will happen.” Ben J
”I liked it. We got to see our new president. I liked the music. He talked about people helping out.” JR Sims
”I liked seing the White House and the parade.” Autumn
”I liked seeing the US Capital.” Vincent
”I liked President Obama’s speech. He said it in a powerful way, he had enthusiasm. I liked when he took his oath and promised to make good choices for the world.” Isabel
”I liked his speech. He had the ‘right’ speech, he made the right promised to the world and will keep that promise.” Rilee
A note from Mrs. Moore…we prepared for Inauguration Day by studying about Martin Luther King. This gave the students a perspective into why this was a historical, significant day. Their teacher taught them that the Civil Rights Act was passed when she was a (very) young girl and within her lifetime, Martin Luther King’s dream had been achieved. This inauguration was even more than Dr. King could have wished for. They also followed the presidential campaign and had a classroom mock election, where Obama received the most votes. They also mapped out the schedule for Inauguration Day as well as the parade route.
Thanks! Let me know if you need anything else!
