Inaugural poem
Local artist/writer M.D. Wilson wrote this poem yesterday:
“44th President Barack Obama”
-Inauguration 2009-
Forty-three hands were raised this way, yet none more
historic upon this day.
A train ride and a promise made in the past, the words of
”President Lincoln” have finally come true at last.
This “Son of a people” once owned, by their “Nation.”
Stands before them this day in “Presidential Celebration”
Crowded together in the cold along these historical
train-tracks.
Yes, American’s of all races, some with children perched
on their backs.
At the end of this train ride wait two million of his people.
Americans, witnessing this moment, beneath this great
steeple.
As “President-Elect Obama” raises his hand to repeat
those words from our past.
With all our hopes, that this change will be a good one at
last.
That together as one “Nation” together we could bring.
Honor to those words, made by “Martin Luther King.”
Now maybe together we may finally stand, “One Nation”
with many cultures, doing the best we can.
