Ken Lanfear on road kill at 19 Acres
A post below shows deer at the 19 Acres site, next to the Public Works yard.
Says Lanfear, the Public Works director, via email:
“Local city street road-kill deer have been deposited on that property: generally they are taken care of naturally, i.e., scavengers, or buried. This practice was authorized several City Managers ago, according to crew.
“However, the assertion accompanying the photo on your website is quite misleading and somewhat inflammatory. The site is not behind the church or near the elementary school, as can be easily seen by anyone taking the time view the aerial photos in the City’s GIS website . . . The actual deposit site is approximately 300′ north of the churches northerly property line, 600′ north of the school district property, and over 800′ north of the school building.”
He adds that it is something of a necessary evil, “Having to dispose of road-hit deer is an unfortunate reality.”
He’s got a point, there. Any volunteers to get rid of dead animals? . . . Anyone? . . . Anyone?

Is not there a law on the books of the State of Washington that says that you must notify the tate Patrol of the kill? It is the Patrols job to take care of the disposal. Why has this not been done?
