Tom…I’ve had some time to think about the inaugural. We were so inspired by our new president’s words.
We’ve been inspired for a long time by him. Our son, Chris, was in Grant Park, when we all found out that Obama had won the presidential election. Chris shared that moment with us on his cell phone, as we also watched CNN coverage. It was overwhelming for our family.
We ALL know there needs to be a change…doesn’t matter which party you affiliate with. This man has bitten off huge American problems to deal with. Not too many people (magicians, maybe?) would be able to get it all right. He will not get everything right…how could he? He’s trying to approach major problems by reaching out to all factions. I hope that he will receive the bi-partisan support which will be necessary in his attempt to fix the issues facing all of us in 2009 and beyond.
Sorry about the drama…but we are in dramatic times…
I think the mainstream media let Cheney and his alleged back problems off the hook easily. They took the excuse hook-line-and sinker. What (senior citizen) VP deals with their own boxes on the eve of leaving office? If he was actually lifting things too heavy (hard to believe), I wonder what the contents were of those heavy boxes. Off to the shredder? Files of political enemies? The millions of names that were illegally wiretapped (perhaps you and me). Do you actually think just a handful of people had their privacy violated? Come on.
Cheney ought to be serving time. But being the narcissist he is, he needed to look like Scrooge in a wheelchair to garner attention on a day that he should have been entirely invisible.
I think Obama is embracing the worlds concerns and approaching them with arms wide open. He understands that he is taking office while a storm is brewing out over the horizon, and he is not fearful of it. He knows Americans want restored hope, restored trust, and future security, and he is willing to do whatever it takes to give that to him. It will be a fun four years of watching how this developer of strategic plans leads our nation toward the direction it wishes to travel.
The words were well thought out and inspiring, the references to our history and it’s links to our future were appropriate. I was very disappointed as he referenced his own history that he made no mention of his mother or grandparents. Every mom and care giving grandparent should be disappointed.
