Fire Dept. stats
At last night’s council meeting, there was also a good deal of talk about the services the Ocean Shores Fire/Paramedic Dept. gives outside the city, and how much places like Copalis Beach, Moclips, Pacific Beach and Taholah should pay for ambulance service. Chief Jim Hodges said he plans to increase contributions from “outside the gate” areas.
Here are some recent stats on calls provided by the Fire Department:
From November 1st through November 18th the Ocean Shores Fire Department has responded to a total of 101 emergency 911 calls. Of these responses 94 were emergency medical problems and 7 were emergency fire responses.During this time period the fire department had16 occasions that 2 emergencies were going simultaneously (“DOUBLE”) and 6 occasions that 3 emergencies were going simultaneously. (“TRIPLE”)
The call volume is up 55 calls from last year.

And how many of these were outside the gates?? We still do not know that. How hard is it for us to get that information? I have asked the Mr. Hodges that in an e-mail and still have not gotten the answer. Maybe you, Tom, can get the answer. Will the 35K cover our true costs? Now we need to start asking about Business Development beyond tourism. Weatherwax is being dealt with by Ecology and potentially the Wetlands Mitigation Banking idea so all land owners will benefit from it by allowing them to build on their lots. It only makes sense. Now we need to save trees on the lots and keep some of the native vegetation so animals have something to eat. Yes, they like roses, but roses do not do well here anyway. Planting native plants also is a smart alternative to other types of plants.
